Nearly 100 doctors and nurses brought medicine to support Dak Lak in recovering from storms and floods.

On the morning of November 25, nearly 100 doctors and nurses from Ho Chi Minh City urgently set off for Dak Lak province, bringing medicine and medical equipment to support local people in overcoming the consequences of storms and floods.

From November 25 to 28, working group No. 1 will directly examine, provide health consultation, dispense medicine and support medical care for people in Hoa Xuan commune, Dak Lak province.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, and Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai, Director of Gia Dinh People's Hospital, arrived early to check the medicine bags, medical supplies and equipment brought along. Each working group prepared 500 family medicine bags including fever reducers, ORS, diarrhea medicine, cold medicine, antiseptic solution and first aid supplies.

At the farewell ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung encouraged the doctors and acknowledged the pioneering spirit of the medical team in Ho Chi Minh City. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai wished the delegation a successful completion of their mission and a safe return.

Gia Dinh People's Hospital sent 12 doctors, nurses and medical staff in the fields of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics and Nursing. Before departure, Master, Doctor Tran Mai Hong Ngoc, Department of Endocrinology and Nephrology, emotionally shared: "As a young doctor, I clearly feel my responsibility for the losses that people in flood-affected areas have to bear. I hope that my professional knowledge and heart will help people to somewhat ease their difficulties, giving them a feeling of being shared and supported in these challenging days."

Nurse Nguyen Thi Mai Vi said that when she received the news of the volunteer group, she immediately arranged her family affairs to go. “I want to contribute my small part to care for and ease the pain that people have just experienced. This is not only a professional duty but also a sentiment from my heart for the people in the flood area,” nurse Mai Vi shared.

According to Gia Dinh People's Hospital, before the trip, the Social Work Department launched a campaign to collect clothes and essential necessities and send them to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to deliver to people in flood-affected areas.

The hospital also proactively contacted local health stations to grasp the actual situation, especially the risk of disease outbreaks after storms and floods, and at the same time mobilized donors to support medical equipment such as blood pressure monitors, syringes, and bandages to serve at health stations.

Gia Dinh People's Hospital also launched the "Family Medicine Bag" campaign with medicines to treat common diseases and instructions for safe use.

Mr. Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, said that all medical facilities in the area, both public and private, are ready to support provinces affected by natural disasters. At the request of the Dak Lak Department of Health, 5 communes are facing medical difficulties, so Ho Chi Minh City has established 5 working groups, each group has about 20 doctors specializing in internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, pediatrics, obstetrics and dermatology. All 5 groups departed on the morning of November 25.

The teams will directly examine people and bring about 500 family medicine bags to distribute to people, supporting the handling of medical situations at home or in isolated areas. Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has prepared nearly 18,000 family medicine bags, exceeding the initial target of 10,000 bags and is aiming for 20,000 bags to serve people in flood-hit areas.

Five working groups were assigned to the localities and assigned to the final level hospitals of Ho Chi Minh City as team leaders, including Gia Dinh People's Hospital, 115 People's Hospital, An Binh Hospital, Thu Duc Regional General Hospital and Binh Duong General Hospital. These hospitals are in charge of essential professional fields in natural disasters such as emergency - resuscitation, internal medicine, surgery and orthopedic trauma.

In addition, the Department of Health has increased human resources from specialized hospitals in the city such as Tu Du, Hung Vuong, Nhi Dong 1, Nhi Dong 2, Nhi Dong City, Dermatology Hospital and Tropical Diseases Hospital, along with a team of nurses and pharmacists. Multidisciplinary participation aims to ensure comprehensive care for the people, especially children, the elderly and pregnant women.

The core tasks of the working groups include providing direct medical examination and treatment to people; providing free medicine; consulting on self-care and preventing infectious diseases. The groups also support local health stations in restoring operations, classifying cases and coordinating referrals when necessary. All expenses for the work trip, including transportation, medicine, medical supplies and family medicine kits, are covered by the hospitals themselves.
