Nearly 700 students compete at the IoT Challenge 2025

IoT Challenge 2025, an annual technology competition co-organized by FPT and Silicon Labs, attracted nearly 700 students from 70 universities nationwide with the theme “Edge AI for Smart Retail” aiming at smart retail solutions.

This year, IoT Challenge recorded the largest participation scale ever with the participation of more than 130 teams, nearly 700 contestants from 70 universities nationwide. After nearly 6 months of competition, the contestants brought more than 200 pioneering technology ideas. Not only outstanding in quantity, the season also marked the quality of expertise, when the teams demonstrated creative thinking, sharp critical thinking and international integration spirit. With the theme "Application of AI in smart retail", the teams showed many unique approaches, proving the ability to apply advanced technology to solve practical problems in the retail industry.

This year's final round witnessed the competition of the 10 best teams. The teams took turns presenting their solutions and giving direct feedback to the panel of experts from FPT and Silicon Labs. Many outstanding topics clearly demonstrated the creative spirit and practical application ability of the teams, such as: Solutions to build a smart convenience store management and operation ecosystem; Smart shopping cart system or supermarket navigation system integrated with voice recognition, bringing a more convenient and modern shopping experience to users.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Dong, Production Director of FPT Software, FPT Corporation affirmed: “IoT Challenge is not just a competition – it is a journey to connect, share and spread the spirit of innovation between FPT and Silicon Labs.” He emphasized that each idea presented today has the potential to shape the future, and the efforts of young people are proof of the aspirations of the next generation.

Mr. Shoaib Javed – Senior Software Engineering Director of Silicon Labs shared from his journey of more than 20 years with IoT: “You are standing at a new threshold – where IoT combined with AI opens up possibilities beyond imagination.” He said that from a small competition 4 years ago, IoT Challenge has become a big journey, where students are inspired, trained and accumulated experience for their future careers.

After the competition, the Champion position belonged to team RIO - Vietnam - Korea University of Information and Communications Technology - with the SmartMedStock solution - Smart Pharmacy. Team Edgelectronic - a joint team of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - VNU-HCM and RMIT University South Saigon - won the Second Prize with the product Smart Perfume Cabinet - AI-based customer management and experience system. The title of Noble Champion was awarded to team E401, Hanoi University of Technology, with the design of a supermarket navigation and positioning system. In addition, the Organizing Committee also awarded additional prizes to recognize the outstanding efforts of the competing teams: NOVA won the Promising Team award while MLIoT_Newbie was voted the Most Favorite Team.

Launched in 2020, IoT Challenge has become an annual activity for the student community who love technology, especially in the field of IoT (Internet of Things). Through each season, the competition not only seeks breakthrough ideas but also creates a launching pad for the young generation to apply technology to solve practical problems. The competition consists of 3 rounds: Preliminary, Semi-final and Final, with evaluation criteria revolving around creativity, practical application, and presentation and argumentation skills of the competing teams.

As the initiator and co-organizer with Silicon Labs, FPT not only provides a platform for students to develop but also contributes to promoting cooperation between universities, domestic enterprises and international partners. Aiming at innovation and linking knowledge with the practical needs of the industry, especially in the field of smart retail, IoT Challenge 2025 continues to affirm its position as a prestigious playground for the young generation of technology engineers in Vietnam.
