This project will contribute to better meeting the housing needs of low-income people and households whose land has been recovered but are not eligible for resettlement.

Social housing "sets foot" in new urban areas

On the morning of May 19, the iDT Social Housing Apartment Project - the first social housing project in Long Thanh district, was officially started. The project is built on an area of over 3.1 hectares, including 5 apartment blocks with more than 600 apartments, along with accompanying utilities.

Deputy Director of the Department of Construction Huynh Tan Loc said that Long Thanh district is oriented to become an urban area, especially the area surrounding Long Thanh International Airport in the future will form large-scale industrial, urban, free trade, and logistics zones. However, up to now, no social housing projects have been implemented. The iDT Social Housing Apartment Project is not only a key project to help the province complete the social housing development target assigned by the Government this year, but also contributes to solving the housing needs of low-income people and those with housing difficulties. The province will continue to accompany businesses and localities so that the project can be implemented smoothly, creating a quality living space for people.

Ms. Nguyen Huong Giang, Member of the Board of Directors of Long Thanh Riverside Joint Stock Company, General Director of Tay Ho Group (project investor), shared that the project has apartments ranging from 48m² to over 70m², meeting the needs of both small and multi-generational families. The apartments are intelligently and modernly designed, with waterproofing and anti-subsidence systems, spacious parking lots and many amenities for residents.

“We are committed to investing properly, ensuring construction safety and completing the project on schedule for handover by the end of 2026,” Ms. Giang affirmed.

Attending and speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Deputy Minister of Construction Bui Xuan Dung acknowledged the efforts of the locality and requested the Provincial People's Committee to continue creating favorable conditions for social housing projects, specifically reviewing and supplementing urban and industrial park planning; at the same time, allocating reasonable land funds and convenient locations for social housing development.

In addition, Deputy Minister Bui Xuan Dung requested that the authorities simplify investment procedures, provide financial support and select reputable investors to contribute to the goal of building at least 1 million social housing units nationwide. The projects must ensure quality equivalent to commercial housing, have full essential services and transparent information so that people can easily access, register to buy or rent.

The iDT Social Housing Apartment Project has an area of nearly 3.1 hectares, with a scale of more than 600 apartments, located in the overall iD Junction Urban Area Project of 41 hectares in Long Thanh town.

4 more projects to be implemented soon

Not stopping at one project, in March 2025, the Provincial People's Committee approved the investment policy of 2 social housing projects from public land funds in Long Thanh district. In addition, 2 other commercial housing projects are promoting procedures to implement social housing on the 20% land fund.

Vice Chairman of Long Thanh District People's Committee Le Hoang Son said that the district has 2 projects that have just been approved by the province for investment, including: Social housing area in Phuoc Binh commune with an area of about 10 hectares, scale of more than 1,600 apartments, total expected investment capital of more than 2,300 billion VND; Social housing area in An Phuoc commune with an area of 7.3 hectares, expected to build about 1,500 apartments (including 350 commercial apartments), total investment capital of more than 1,700 billion VND. Both projects are expected to be completed and put into operation in the second quarter of 2029.

Two other social housing projects will be implemented on the 20% land fund of commercial housing areas: Loc An residential area (Loc An commune) invested by Industrial Urban Development Joint Stock Company No. 2 (D2D), with more than 3.8 hectares of land adjusted from resettlement land to social housing development; An Phuoc residential area (An Phuoc commune) invested by Long Thuan Loc Joint Stock Company, with nearly 4 hectares of land that must be handed over to the locality to build social housing according to regulations.

General Director of Industrial Urban Development Joint Stock Company No. 2 (D2D) Ho Duc Thanh said that the company is ready with resources to start the social housing project in Loc An commune. The company hopes to implement the project as soon as possible to contribute to completing the province's social housing development target, while reducing housing pressure in Long Thanh district. The company recommends that departments and branches promptly advise the Provincial People's Committee to resolve land allocation procedures and adjust investment policies to implement the project.

Long Thanh District has a series of strategic projects that are being and will be implemented, typically Long Thanh International Airport, industrial parks and new urban areas according to the Provincial Planning. This has led to a sudden increase in population, labor and housing needs of low-income people, as well as households whose land has been recovered but are not eligible for resettlement. In that context, social housing projects will contribute to solving the housing "bottleneck".

The realization of planned social housing projects in the district with the most key projects in the province shows the determination and political responsibility of the locality in contributing to the province's goal of developing 10,000 social housing units in the 2021-2025 period and 50,000 units in the 2021-2030 period.
