The 2025 Xuan Hoa Open Boat Racing Festival brings together 18 competing teams from many units and provinces. The race takes place from Chantarangsay Pagoda to Cong Ly Bridge (in Xuan Hoa Ward and Nhieu Loc Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).
In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Hung Hau - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Xuan Hoa Ward - emphasized that this year's festival is meaningful in preserving the Khmer cultural identity of the South, while creating a space to connect the urban community. He urged the competing teams to be united, honest, and to dedicate themselves to the people with beautiful but safe performances.
The festival is not only a cultural activity, but also creates a space for the community to connect. Here, people have the opportunity to meet, chat and share joy together.
From early morning, people gathered on both sides of the canal to cheer. Many groups carried flags and trumpets, cheering loudly every time the dragon boats increased speed.
On the water, the athletes of the teams compete fiercely, the rowing rhythm is rapid with the shouts of the main rower, creating a bustling atmosphere that lasts throughout the session.
Despite the sunny weather, the crowd of spectators still stood tightly along the canal bank. Ms. Thi Tay (38 years old, from Ca Mau ) participated in the Ngo boat racing festival in Ho Chi Minh City for the first time. She said she traveled from Ca Mau to here yesterday to cheer for the Dau Sau team, the Ngo boat racing team from her hometown.
"I came here at 4am, thinking there would only be a few people like me, but it was unexpectedly crowded. The atmosphere here is very bustling, every time my hometown boat moves forward, my heart beats fast. Coming here and seeing the strong spirit of our people, I am extremely happy and proud," she shared.
In the final results, Vongsa Sousdei Thursday team won first prize; Khmer Southern Buddhist Academy team won second prize; Khlang Ong team won third prize.
