Meat supply to the market is increasing while purchasing power remains weak.

In the northern market, after many consecutive days of keeping the price unchanged, the price of live pigs in this area has increased by 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg in many provinces and cities. Specifically, in addition to Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Ninh Binh, Ha Nam and Nam Dinh trading at 67,000 VND/kg, the remaining localities buy and sell live pigs at 68,000 VND/kg.

In the Central Highlands, live pig prices were adjusted in opposite directions in some localities. While Thanh Hoa and Nghe An both increased in price, reaching 68,000 VND/kg, in the opposite direction, live pig prices in Quang Binh and Quang Tri decreased, respectively to 69,000 VND/kg and 68,000 VND/kg. Currently, live pig prices in localities in the region still have a large difference, fluctuating between 67,000 - 73,000 VND/kg.

The live hog market in the southern region also reversed to increase after many days of downward trend. Today's trading session showed that live hogs increased by VND 1,000/kg in Ca Mau , reaching VND 74,000/kg. Meanwhile, Long An recorded an increase of VND 2,000/kg, reaching VND 75,000/kg. The southern region currently has the highest live hog price in the country, ranging from VND 73,000 - VND 75,000/kg.

According to the General Statistics Office, by the end of April 2025, the total pig herd in the country is estimated to have increased by 3% over the same period last year thanks to effective control of African swine fever. Some localities have seen a sharp increase in livestock production such as Binh Dinh with an increase of 9.5%; Nghe An with an increase of nearly 4%, Phu Tho with an increase of 3.9%... Meanwhile, imports of meat, meat by-products and edible by-products after animal slaughter reached 581.9 million USD, an increase of 18.8% over the same period in 2024, supplementing the supply for the domestic market./.
