Biosecurity, an effective 'shield' to prevent and control animal diseases
Mr. Huynh Kim Khanh, Head of the Khanh Hoa Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, said that biosafety livestock farming is the synchronous implementation of veterinary hygiene and management techniques to minimize and eliminate pathogens in livestock that can infect humans and harm the environment.
Therefore, biosafety farming will bring many economic benefits to farmers and consumers. This will be a "shield" to protect livestock and reduce environmental pollution.
In Khanh Hoa province, according to Mr. Khanh, recently the Department and localities have focused on propagating, mobilizing, and guiding livestock farmers to apply biosafety livestock farming processes in production.
Thanks to that, up to now, the whole province has 349 livestock and poultry farms. Of which, about 80% of the total pig herd, 50% of the total chicken herd and 5% of the total cow herd are raised on farms that apply technical advances and biosafety farming.
Notably, 14 livestock facilities have been granted certificates of disease-free facilities, including 11 pig farms, 2 chicken farms and 1 ostrich farm. Every year, the Department conducts, inspects, monitors and periodically evaluates 14 animal disease-free facilities according to regulations, according to the Agriculture and Environment newspaper.
