According to the Agriculture and Environment newspaper , since October 2024, African swine fever has broken out in Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh province, causing quite heavy losses to local farmers. Since then, this area has never stepped out of the "high-risk" area for disease spread. There are many factors to the cause, but one of the main reasons is the subjective mentality and improper regret of the people.

Ms. Vo Thi Ha, residing in Yen Hoa commune, Cam Xuyen district, currently has 12 pigs that have stopped eating, have fever, and are constipated. Previously, around the beginning of June, Ms. Ha had destroyed 3 sows and 8 piglets after testing positive for African swine fever.

If her awareness of disease prevention was high, Ms. Ha would have destroyed these pigs as soon as they stopped eating and had a fever. However, she said: "The pigs are not dead yet, and the family cannot bear to use electric shock, so we are still trying to treat them. We will only destroy them when they are dead."

The case of Ms. Vo Thi Ha shows a subjective and negligent mentality in the prevention and control of African swine fever. Not only Ms. Ha, many people after discovering the disease sought treatment methods on their own, only reporting to the relevant authorities and local authorities when the pigs died.

Mr. Phan Xuan Dung's family in Cam Duong commune discovered a pig with symptoms of African swine fever on June 9 but did not report it to the local authorities but bought medicine to treat it at home. After 2 days, the pig died, Mr. Dung reported it to the authorities to destroy it.
