Pork supply is limited and market purchasing power has not seen a sudden increase.
According to a survey on May 21, the live pig market in the northern region continued to be quiet, keeping prices stable at around 67,000 - 69,000 VND/kg. Currently, many provinces and cities in this region such as Hanoi , Thai Binh, Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc... recorded live pig prices at 68,000 VND/kg. The highest price in the region is 69,000 VND/kg in Bac Giang .
In the Central Highlands market, after a slight increase on May 20, the price of live pigs has stabilized again. Localities in the region are currently buying and selling live pigs at 67,000 - 73,000 VND/kg. Of which, Binh Thuan is the only province with a price of 73,000 VND/kg, the highest in the region.
The southern live hog market continues to have the highest price in the country. Currently, the live hog price in this area is trading in the range of 73,000 - 75,000 VND/kg. The highest price of 75,000 VND/kg is maintained in the provinces of Ben Tre, Long An and Tien Giang.
In general, after the adjustment in the morning session of May 20, the price of live pigs today recorded stability in all three regions. Traders purchased live pigs at around 67,000 - 75,000 VND/kg. The price difference between the southern and northern markets is quite large, up to 6,000 - 7,000 VND/kg. This shows that the supply of pork in the southern provinces is slightly lacking when the "capital" of livestock farming, Dong Nai, relocated small-scale farms. Many farmers then switched to other production models due to lack of capital and unpredictable market fluctuations.
It is forecasted that the pork market is about to enter the rainy season and long summer vacation. As usual, pork prices will decrease during this period due to low consumption and consumers will have more cheap food sources to choose from./.
