The live hog market on July 14, 2025 witnessed local fluctuations in the North, showing that a price adjustment trend has begun to appear after a long period of sideways or slight increases.
In Hanoi , Quang Ninh, Lang Son and Cao Bang provinces, the price of live pigs today decreased by 1,000 VND/kg - this is the first time the price in these localities has been adjusted in nearly two weeks. The decrease, although not large, is a signal, reflecting the slowdown in purchasing power in major consumption centers.
In particular, the price reduction in Hanoi - the leading pork consumer in the North - shows that the market is temporarily entering a new phase of balance between supply and demand. Meanwhile, border provinces such as Lang Son and Cao Bang are affected by increased domestic supply and trade from neighboring areas.
Currently, the average price in the North fluctuates between 66,000 and 68,000 VND/kg, a slight decrease compared to last week. Although there has not been a wave of sell-offs, if the downward trend continues, the adjustment pressure will spread more widely in the coming days.
Pig price in Central Highlands
In the Central region, the price of live pigs remains relatively stable. Quang Ngai is the only locality that recorded a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg, while the remaining provinces such as Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang , Khanh Hoa and Dak Lak have not seen any new fluctuations.
However, analysts say that if the price decline in the North continues, the Central region will likely be under pressure to adjust accordingly, although the level of fluctuation will not be too strong due to the nature of the market in this region, which is usually less volatile than key regions.
Southern pig price
Meanwhile, the South continues to be the bright spot of the live hog market, with prices remaining at the highest level in the country. Provinces such as Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Can Tho, An Giang, Dong Thap, Ca Mau, Tay Ninh and Lam Dong did not record any price changes today.
The price of live pigs in this area fluctuates between 69,000 - 71,000 VND/kg, thanks to factors such as:
Active and stable supply, coming from large-scale farms
Good disease control, especially after previous small outbreaks
Strong consumption demand, not only in the region but also serving export to the North and Central regions.
Experts believe that the South will continue to maintain its price advantage if there are no major fluctuations in the epidemic or changes in market policies in the short term.
The pig market on July 14 showed a clear differentiation trend between regions. The North is under pressure to reduce prices locally, while the South remains stable at a high level, and the Central region maintains a neutral position.
According to experts, if the price reduction spreads in the North, this could create a chain reaction to the remaining regions, especially the Central region. On the contrary, if domestic purchasing power improves in the second half of July, the market could recover soon and stabilize again.
In this context, livestock farmers need to closely monitor market developments and consumption demand in each region to have appropriate plans for selling their livestock, avoiding dumping when prices drop sharply. At the same time, improving the quality of breeding stock, controlling input costs and increasing livestock productivity will be key factors to help the livestock industry maintain efficiency in the current period of market fluctuations.
