African swine fever situation in Quang Ngai
According to ANTV, although African swine fever has been largely controlled after more than three months of outbreak, Quang Ngai province has not been able to completely control it as outbreaks still appear in many communes. Prevention and destruction work is being continuously deployed by localities.
In Dong Son commune - where the largest number of pigs were destroyed in the province - the breeding sow herd of Mr. Bui Thanh Lam's family in Liem Quang village, with a total weight of nearly 1,500 kg, had to be destroyed on the morning of October 13 after being found to be infected with African swine fever.
"Up to this moment, I don't know why my pigs got sick. I sprayed medicine every two days and thought it would never happen, but in the end, it happened like this, so I have to accept it. The total loss to the herd is probably around two hundred million," said Mr. Bui Thanh Lam, Liem Quang village, Dong Son commune, Quang Ngai province.
African swine fever began to appear in Dong Son commune in early July and so far the locality has destroyed more than 70 tons of pigs. As the disease continues to spread in some households, Dong Son commune authorities are asking forces to strengthen epidemic prevention and not be subjective to limit damage to the people.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Lac - Deputy Director of Dong Son Commune Public Service Center, Quang Ngai Province - said that the epidemic is still complicated and cannot be completely eradicated. The center is coordinating with the economic department and the villages to continuously carry out disinfection work. The commune also mobilized militia and cadres to support people in the process of disinfection and epidemic prevention.
Dong Son is currently one of 12 communes in Quang Ngai that have not gone 21 days without an outbreak. According to the Department of Animal Health and Livestock of Quang Ngai province, since July 1, the entire province has had to destroy more than 86,000 pigs, affecting nearly 12,000 farming households.
In addition to vaccination and disinfection, localities have also stepped up guidance for people to implement biosecurity measures, with the goal of quickly controlling African swine fever and helping farmers quickly stabilize and restore their herds after the epidemic.
