Gia Lai: Using ropes and pulleys to rescue 31 people along the Ba River

On the evening of November 19, Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dak Song commune (Gia Lai province) said that the authorities had successfully rescued 31 people from Meo village who were isolated along the Ba river.

This group of people went to work on the fields on the other side of the river, but on the afternoon of November 18, the water level suddenly rose, making it impossible for them to return and they were isolated from that time. Immediately after receiving the information, the Commune People's Committee directed the functional forces to guard and prevent people from crossing the river without their own safety. During the time they were stuck, the people stayed at their houses and fields; the Commune stretched ropes and transferred food and necessities to support them.

People were rescued at night

By 4 p.m. on November 19, about 55 people from the An Khe Fire Police force, the Commune Police, militia and young villagers joined the rescue. Due to the terrain, it was impossible to use canoes, so the rescue team used ropes and pulleys to cross the river to reach the scene. The rescue was difficult due to strong currents and rain. After nearly 3 hours of deployment, all 31 people were brought home safely.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich, Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, was present to direct and monitor the rescue work.
