Asian rice prices fluctuated in opposite directions last week.

The Asian rice market saw mixed trends last week, with Thai rice prices surging to their highest level in over six months, while prices in Vietnam and India remained generally stable.

In Thailand, the price of 5% broken rice surged to around $400 per ton (up from $375 per ton last week). This increase stems from concerns about tight supply due to flooding, coupled with expectations of improved demand following China's commitment to purchase 500,000 tons. Traders are also optimistic about the possibility of additional orders from the Philippines.

Conversely, Indian export rice prices remained virtually unchanged, staying at $347–354 per ton for parboiled rice with 5% broken grains. The weakening rupee helped exporters offset the increased costs caused by high domestic paddy prices.

In Vietnam, the price of 5% broken rice also remained stable, fluctuating around 365–370 USD/ton. Trading activity was considered slow due to weak demand, as evidenced by the sharp 49.1% decrease in exports in November 2025 compared to the same period last year (reaching only 358,000 tons).

Globally, the rice market is gradually stabilizing after a volatile 2025. Price trends are clearly diverging: Asia is seeing increases due to tight supply, while American exporters are under downward pressure from weakening foreign demand, widening the price gap between the two regions. Analysts predict the market will enter 2026 on a stable footing, but with clear regional differences remaining.
