In recent weeks, the vegetable market in Hanoi has witnessed a sharp increase in prices.
Surveys at traditional markets such as Hoang Mai, Nguyen Cong Tru, Van Phuc,... and the Winmart, Fujimart, and Thanh Do supermarket systems show that prices of many vegetable products have increased by 30%, double, or even triple compared to the same period last year.
The main causes were identified as harsh weather, continuous rain and storms, earlier cold than usual and frost, which prevented vegetables from growing, waterlogged roots, and reduced supply. In addition, input costs such as fertilizers, transportation, etc. all increased, pushing up selling prices.
At Hoang Mai market, traders said that popular vegetables have increased in price "dizzily". Specifically, the current price of cucumbers is up to 35,000 - 40,000 VND/kg. The price of beans is recorded at 40,000 - 45,000 VND/kg, cabbage 30,000 - 35,000 VND/kg...
Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Mai, a vegetable seller at the local market in Bo De ward, said that in the past two or three days, the price of various types of vegetables has decreased by a few thousand VND per bunch because this is a short-term vegetable that is easy to grow. Specifically, chrysanthemum greens are 13,000 VND/bunch, green mustard and sweet mustard are both 15,000 VND/bunch, cabbage is 20,000 VND/kg... all decreased by 2,000 to 3,000 VND/bunch compared to last week.
“If the weather is favorable, it will take a few more weeks for fruit and vegetable prices to stabilize when new crops are harvested,” Ms. Mai added.
At other traditional markets such as 8-3, Nguyen Cong Tru, Hang Be..., the price of green vegetables is also high. Accordingly, water spinach is sold for 30,000 VND/bunch, kohlrabi 15,000 VND/root, amaranth and mustard greens from 10,000 - 18,000 VND/bunch depending on the size. A vegetable seller said that the price of vegetables in general increased by 30%, even double compared to previous years.

Meanwhile, at supermarkets, vegetable prices have increased but the level of fluctuation is less.
Recorded at WIN supermarket on Hoang Nhu Tiep street, Bo De ward this morning, green vegetables flooded the stalls, such as spinach, bok choy, sweet cabbage, various types of water spinach, celery, chayote, carrots, potatoes, pumpkins... According to the staff of this supermarket, the price of vegetables here is stable and currently equal to the price of vegetables at the markets with clear origin, clean processing and packaging.
Notably, the WinMart/WIN, WinMart + supermarket and convenience store systems nationwide are holding the program "Festival of gratitude, family enjoyment" to celebrate the 11th anniversary of its establishment with many deep discount programs, in which most vegetables and fruits are stabilized in price. In particular, Wineco vegetables and fruits, directly produced by the Massan Group, are also discounted by 20% for members.
At Fuji Mart on Giang Vo Street, Giang Vo Ward, Chinese cabbage is sold for 15,000 VND/300g, amaranth 14,000 VND, king oyster mushroom 33,000 VND/200g, Da Lat green beans 17,000 VND/300g. Some items such as pumpkin gourd fluctuates between 20,000 and 30,000 VND, cucumber 20,000 VND/500g, Da Lat chayote 17,000 - 20,000 VND depending on weight and broccoli 10,000 VND/100g.

At Thanh Do supermarket, Lac Trung street, Vinh Tuy ward, vegetables are packaged and listed with prices according to specific weight. Lettuce costs 15,400 VND/280g, bok choy and sweet cabbage range from 16,000 - 19,000 VND, Malabar spinach 13,000 VND for 300g. Cucumbers are about 44,000 VND/kg and kohlrabi is about 15,000 - 18,000 VND per root depending on weight.
Ms. Phuong Dung, on Lac Trung Street, said that although vegetable prices have increased, this is an essential commodity so it is impossible not to buy. Ms. Dung said that she chooses to buy vegetables and fruits at the supermarket because of the stable prices and clear traceability of their origin. She also switched to buying vegetables and fruits such as pumpkin, potatoes, taro... with more stable prices.
