In the last days of October, the scene at the Green Market is no longer as bustling as before. Water spinach, cabbage, jute... are sold in small quantities, prices range from 10,000 to 15,000 VND/bunch. On the stalls, the vendors only display small quantities, just enough to sell in the morning.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, a long-time vegetable seller at the Green Market, said: The flood came, water submerged all the vegetable fields in Hoa An, Nung Tri Cao, Tan Giang, many gardens were crushed and damaged. Vegetables imported from other provinces had landslides on the road, vehicles could not go up. There were products for sale but the quantity was not much, and the input price increased by 20-30% so we had to sell at a higher price.
It can be seen that the number of customers buying vegetables has decreased significantly in recent days. People go to the market less, some buy a few small bunches of vegetables to eat temporarily, others have had to switch to eating noodles, eggs or dried foods to get through the days when vegetables are expensive.
Not only are retailers worried, consumers are also struggling to make ends meet. Ms. Tran Minh Tam , Thuc Phan ward, said: My family has a small child but still has to try to buy fresh vegetables for him to eat. In the past few days, when I went to the market, I saw that the prices of everything had increased, but vegetables were scarce. A meal of vegetables now costs more than before the flood. I know it is due to the impact of the flood, but it is really difficult to balance expenses.
The price increase of vegetables stems from the fact that many vegetable growing areas in communes in the province were flooded and destroyed after heavy rains. According to preliminary statistics from the agricultural sector, dozens of hectares of vegetables were completely damaged and production could not be restored immediately, causing an even greater shortage of supply.
Faced with market fluctuations, the provincial authorities have implemented many measures to stabilize prices and ensure supply. In particular, they have encouraged farmers to restore production with short-term vegetable varieties to supply the market soon.
Currently, in the communes, farmers have started clearing their fields and replanting. The new rows of mustard greens and water spinach are greening up, promising that in a few weeks they will have the first crop of vegetables to supply to the people. Despite many difficulties, everyone hopes that the familiar green color of meals will soon return to every family's dining table.
