Yen Bai - Lao Cai railway line to resume operation soon

Immediately after the incident caused by the impact of storm No. 10, officers and workers of Yen Lao Railway Joint Stock Company were present on the routes to survey the damage, quickly deploy a recovery plan, and soon bring the important traffic artery back into operation, meeting the needs of transporting passengers, especially goods, between Hai Phong - Hanoi - Yen Bai - Lao Cai and China.

The circulation of storm No. 10 has severely affected many localities, agencies, units, businesses and people; including the Yen Vien - Lao Cai railway (section from Van Phu ward to Lao Cai ward, Lao Cai province).

According to railway statistics, on the Yen Vien - Lao Cai railway line, 22.4 km of main railway and 2 stations were flooded, the deepest point was nearly 2 m on top of the rail; landslides on the roadbed's positive slope buried the railway at 16 points stretching from km 168 + 450 to km 290 + 400; landslides on the roadbed's negative slope caused train interruptions at 6 scattered points from km 180 + 200 to km 285 + 200, from 9:00 p.m. on September 29, 2025; the volume of alluvial soil deposited and buried above the railway was about 10,000 m 3 , the remaining volume lying interspersed in the rock bed was estimated at about 5,000 - 7,000 m 3 ; the volume of soil collapsed on the railway was over 2,000 m 3 ; The volume of embankment construction to reinforce the negative slope of the roadbed is 146m.

Although the flood and landslide caused by storm No. 10 were very large, occurring over a large area and in many different locations; including locations with complex terrain and difficult construction conditions, not to mention having to carry out construction while ensuring traffic... However, the staff and workers of Yen Lao Railway Joint Stock Company were always united, overcame all difficulties, and soon brought this important traffic artery back to normal operation as required by the Government, the Ministry of Construction , and the Corporation.

Mr. Tran Trung Dat - Deputy Director of Yen Lao Railway Joint Stock Company said: The company is assigned to manage the railway line that is often affected by natural disasters, especially floods and landslides. We have proactively taken measures to respond when natural disasters occur; the goal of completing the recovery of damage caused by storm No. 10 is an achievement to welcome the Congress of Vietnam Railway Trade Union for the term 2025 - 2030.

With the motto of "4 on-site", Yen Lao Railway Joint Stock Company has arranged command and patrol forces... to grasp the situation, promptly deploy plans according to the established plan; increase forces and vehicles for heavily affected areas. At the same time, assigned leaders to be on duty at the scene (Bao Thang commune area - old Pho Lu town) to directly direct the response work.

For flooded areas, wherever the water recedes, the Company will arrange forces to clear mud and rubbish on the rail surface, and the locations where the stone foundation has been washed away will be immediately supplemented. For the positive slope landslide locations, the Company will mobilize local human resources, rent additional local equipment, carry out earthwork, and restore traffic as soon as conditions permit, ensuring safety. For the negative slope landslide locations, the Company will mobilize local human resources; mobilize crushed stone, boulders, and spare stone cages from the Company's Lam Giang Quarry to reinforce the roadbed, striving to clear the road in the shortest time.

Regardless of day or night, despite unfavorable weather, difficult and complicated construction conditions... after only 4 days, the Yen - Laos railway was open, trains could move through at slow speed; in the following days, the situation was gradually restored.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chung - a worker of Team 7 - Bao Ha said: "We were mobilized by the company's leaders to reinforce the Co Phuc area to repair the railway; the work was difficult and arduous, due to the large amount of mud and soil, and the unpredictable weather. However, we and our partners were determined to overcome and complete the plan on time."

Currently, more than 200 officers and workers of Yen Lao Railway Joint Stock Company are still braving the sun and rain to continue to speed up the work of overcoming the consequences of natural disasters; striving to complete the repair and fully restore normal train operations by November 15, 2025.
