With over 49,000 hectares of aquaculture area, Lao Cai has made its mark on the map of quality aquaculture production in the Northwest region. Aquaculture creates jobs and stable income for many farming households. However, fishing has never been simple, and farmers always have to face risks from natural disasters, climate change as well as subjective and objective factors.

Lao Cai currently has 4,900 hectares of water surface for aquaculture with some key areas such as Thac Ba, Phong Hai, Bao Thang... Aquaculture farmers aim to build concentrated areas to facilitate production and product consumption. Early in the morning, traders gathered at the ponds to buy aquatic products. Fish prices ranged from 30,000 VND - 50,000 VND/kg depending on the type of fish and quality.
Fish farmers soak in cold water to harvest fish. They classify fish by size and breed to negotiate a selling price with traders. 2025 is a year full of risks due to natural disasters and consecutive floods. Fish farmers are always in a state of anxiety and worry. Many households have lost dozens of tons of fish. In addition, they also face climate change when water sources are increasingly polluted, affecting the growth and development of aquatic products.
Faced with that situation, fish farmers are forced to adapt by strengthening their pond systems, applying technology in early warning systems, investing in machinery to support stabilizing the water environment... at quite high costs. Most of the aquaculture farmers have many years of experience in the profession. They have experienced many incidents and risks, many households have even lost everything many times, but they do not give up, are always optimistic, ready to learn from experience, and apply science and technology to contribute to building a brand to raise the level of Lao Cai aquaculture. Fishing contributes to increasing income and building more prosperous countryside.
