Gia Lai durian "defeated" by weather, price drops sharply
This year’s durian season in Gia Lai started in rather unfavorable weather conditions. Prolonged rains have caused many durian orchards to suffer from hard flesh, directly affecting the quality of the fruit, leading to a decrease in selling prices.
According to updated information, the price of good durian is currently fluctuating between 65,000 - 70,000 VND/kg, down from 10,000 to 15,000 VND/kg compared to the same period last year. Notably, many gardens have a high rate of hard-shelled fruit, so traders only buy at a price of about 20,000 VND/kg.
The total durian growing area in Gia Lai currently exceeds 7,900 hectares, mainly concentrated in the western communes of Chu Puh, Chu Se, Chu Pah, Chu Prong, Duc Co, Ia Grai and Dak Doa. Of these, about 3,000 hectares are in harvest season, with an expected output of about 42,000 tons.
