Durian prices today, July 11, remained stable across the country, unchanged from yesterday; only beautiful Thai durian continued to maintain a high level of 75,000 - 80,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, an important development came from the regional market: Cambodia has been officially approved by China to export fresh durian.
According to a survey by chogia.vn, today's durian price did not record any fluctuations compared to July 10. The entire market continued to maintain stable prices, reflecting a signal of balanced supply and demand after many adjustments last week.
In the Southwestern region, the price of selected RI6 durian ranges from 42,000 - 46,000 VND/kg, while the bulk-purchased type is only 20,000 - 26,000 VND/kg. In the higher-end group, selected Thai durian continues to be purchased at 76,000 - 78,000 VND/kg, while the bulk-purchased type remains at 38,000 - 45,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeast region, the price of RI6 durian fluctuates between 40,000 - 45,000 VND/kg for the beautiful type, and 24,000 - 26,000 VND/kg for the bulk type. The price of the beautiful Thai durian is the highest in the market, up to 76,000 - 80,000 VND/kg, the bulk type remains stable at around 42,000 - 45,000 VND/kg.
In the Central Highlands, where the harvest season is in full swing, the price of selected RI6 durian is 42,000 - 45,000 VND/kg, while bulk durian is 22,000 - 25,000 VND/kg. The price of Thai durian here continues to maintain its peak at 75,000 - 80,000 VND/kg for selected durian.
In general, durian prices today remain stable nationwide, with a significant price gap between the RI6 and Thai varieties – the difference is commonly between VND30,000 and VND50,000/kg, reflecting a clear stratification in quality, appearance and market demand for the two most popular durian varieties today.
While the domestic market keeps prices stable, an important development comes from the regional market: Cambodia has been officially approved by China to export fresh durian, opening a new direction for this neighboring country on the Southeast Asian fruit map.
According to Khmer Times, there are currently 112 durian orchards and 30 packing facilities in Cambodia approved by the General Administration of Customs of China. These units must strictly comply with plant quarantine regulations, especially not using toxic chemicals or banned pesticides.
Several Chinese companies have invested early in the Cambodian market, even signing a contract to purchase 15,000 tons of durian for the 2025-2026 period at a promotional event in Guangxi in June. Along with that, there was a commitment to import 20,000 tons of dried mango, showing a significant expansion in agricultural trade relations between the two countries.
However, the biggest challenge for Cambodian durian is price. According to Mr. Khim Bunlene - founder of the King Durian Community in Kampot, to succeed in the Chinese market, Cambodia must improve its flavor, safety and price competitiveness.
Cambodia has now become the ninth country licensed by China to export fresh durian, alongside products such as rice, rice husks, cassava, corn, bananas, mangoes, longans, pepper and coconuts. The nine main durian growing provinces include Kampot, Kampong Cham, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, Battambang...
This move is expected to create certain competitive pressure on the Vietnamese durian market, especially in the low- and mid-priced segments. However, the advantages in the quality of Thai durian grown in Vietnam, transportation infrastructure and large-scale purchasing capacity will continue to be strengths that help Vietnamese durian maintain its position in the region.
