Recently, the European Commission (EC) is also consulting on possible restrictions on steel scrap exports.
Specifically, the European Commission has launched a public consultation on a list of US imports that could be subject to EU countermeasures if negotiations with Washington fail to lift tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, according to GMK Center.
The countermeasures could affect a range of US industrial and agricultural products worth up to 95 billion euros ($107.2 billion). The consultations will run until June 10, the deadline for interested parties to express their views.
The EC is also consulting on the possibility of imposing restrictions on exports of certain steel scrap and chemical products from the EU to the US, worth €4.4 billion.
Since the imposition of unjustified US tariffs, the EU has prioritized the search for a balanced and mutually beneficial solution through negotiations, including within the framework of the 90-day standstill period. These negotiations are ongoing at both a political and technical level, but the bloc continues to prepare potential countermeasures to protect its consumers and industry.
In parallel, the EU will also file a lawsuit against the US at the World Trade Organization (WTO) over the US's general "retaliatory" tariffs on cars and auto parts by formally submitting a request for consultations.
The European Commission continues to closely monitor the potential diversion of global exports to the EU market caused by the US tariffs on third countries. In addition, the EC will continue to negotiate with other trading partners to seek new markets and diversify its supply sources.
