Previously, pepper exports to the US were almost tax-free. However, many shipments already on their way to the US will now face a new 10% tax, even though contracts were signed before the tax announcement. This means that importers may have to renegotiate prices when the goods arrive at the port.

Immediately after the tax information was announced, importers increased purchases due to concerns that the tax rate after the 90-day delay could be even higher.

In addition, in Vietnam, information about a decrease in pepper output compared to last year is being widely spread. These factors have contributed to pushing domestic pepper prices up again last week, with expectations that they could reach 160,000 VND/kg.
