BHG - To improve the quality of life, many members of the Women's Union of Yen Ha commune (Quang Binh) have chosen to develop the economy by investing in livestock farming. This direction is bringing in stable income, contributing to affirming the role and position of women in the family and society.

The Women's Union of Yen Ha commune has 10 branches with 795 members, mainly ethnic minorities such as Tay, Nung, Dao... Identifying that helping members develop their skills is a key task, the Union has recently promoted propaganda work, introducing many models and good practices in animal husbandry for members to refer to and apply. At the same time, the Union also supports members in accessing capital from the Social Policy Bank; connecting members to participate in training courses on animal husbandry techniques. Thanks to that, many women have boldly borrowed capital, invested in expanding the scale with some popular models such as: Raising breeding pigs, commercial pigs, free-range chickens, meat ducks, honey bees... earning hundreds of millions of VND each year.

Raising capons brings in an income of over 30 million VND per year for the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, in Chang Tham village, Yen Ha commune (Quang Binh).
Raising capons brings in an income of over 30 million VND per year for the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, in Chang Tham village, Yen Ha commune (Quang Binh).

Ms. Ly Thi Nhi, a member of the Women's Union of Chang Sat village, is one of the typical members who has been very successful in raising livestock with a model of raising ducks and pigs for sale. It is known that on average, each year her family produces 3 batches of meat ducks, each batch of 500 ducks and 3 batches of meat pigs, each batch of 25-30 pigs, with an income of over 300 million VND after deducting investment costs. Ms. Nhi confided: My family has been raising livestock for nearly 20 years. When we first started, we only dared to try raising a few pigs and ducks, but the results were not very good. Since participating in training courses connected by the Women's Union of the commune, I have gained more experience and boldly applied new techniques to prevent diseases for livestock, thereby expanding the scale. For many years, raising livestock has always brought a stable income, helping the family have a full life and have the conditions to send children to school.

Like Nhi, Nguyen Thi Thuy, a member of the Women's Union of Chang Tham village, has had over 10 years of experience in livestock farming with a model of raising ducks for meat combined with commercial pigs and castrated roosters, earning over 150 million VND per year. Thuy shared: Livestock farming is highly profitable, but also has many risks due to the epidemic situation. To protect the livestock, I always apply the correct techniques that have been trained from the stage of selecting breeds to caring for and cleaning the barns. Thanks to that, my family's livestock always grow and develop well. The Women's Union of Yen Ha commune also has a number of other very successful livestock farming models, receiving high appreciation from local authorities and Party committees, such as Ly Thi Chich, a member of the Women's Union of Chang Moi village, raising goats and commercial pigs for an income of over 50 million VND per year; Hoang Thi Lung, a member of the Women's Union of Yen Phu village, raising breeding pigs combined with castrated roosters and meat geese for an income of over 100 million VND per year; Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien, a member of the Women's Union of Xuan Phu village, raises bees for honey, combined with breeding pigs, egg-laying chickens and meat ducks, earning over 200 million VND per year.

Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Yen Ha commune, Ha Hong Diep, said: Economic development from livestock farming is creating stable jobs for members and family members, making a practical contribution to rural economic development. In the coming time, the Women's Union of the commune will continue to promote propaganda work, coordinate with sectors to organize training, and transfer science and technology on livestock farming for women to apply in practice. At the same time, support members to access capital sources and breeds to promote livestock farming activities, making a positive contribution to socio-economic development.
