Efforts to complete component projects
The road connecting the North-South Expressway with National Highway 1 and Ca Na general seaport has a total investment of 689.04 billion VND, mobilized from the central and local budgets, including 2 main components, with the common goal of completing the regional traffic network, creating smooth connections, effectively exploiting Ca Na general seaport and Ca Na Industrial Park, promoting the development of the southern key economic zone of the province. In addition, this route also plays an important role in responding to natural disasters and enhancing security and defense potential.
According to the Provincial Land Fund Development and Investment Project Management Board, currently, component project 1, the section connecting the North-South Expressway with National Highway 1, is about 10.14km long. With a 34m wide roadbed cross-section and 14m wide road surface (2 lanes on each side), this project has basically completed construction. This is an important milestone, creating the premise for direct connection to the expressway. Currently, the units are urgently constructing the final items of the route in phase 1 and have basically opened to traffic since the beginning of May 2025.
Component 2 project, the section from National Highway 1 to Ca Na general seaport is 12.86km long. This section has a 16m wide roadbed cross-section, a 12m wide road surface (each side has 1 lane for motor vehicles and 1 lane for non-motor vehicles). Site clearance work is being actively implemented by the locality. The section from National Highway 1 to the border of Ca Na Industrial Park (4.66km long) has basically completed site clearance, with only 2 households at the starting intersection remaining. The remaining section from Ca Na Industrial Park to Ca Na general seaport (8.2km long) has completed inventory and compensation for households. However, the salt land of Ninh Thuan Salt Company, about 1.8km long, has not yet been recovered to hand over the construction site. However, construction work began on May 13 and is expected to be completed by the end of October 2025.
Unblocking Thuan Nam intersection
Although the access road is gradually being completed, the most important bottleneck for the entire system to be effective lies at the Thuan Nam interchange at Km113 on the North-South Expressway. This is a project invested by Project Management Board 85 ( Ministry of Construction ). The Provincial People's Committee has repeatedly requested the Ministry of Construction to promptly implement the construction of this interchange.
Mr. Pham Minh Tan, Director of the Provincial Land Fund Development and Investment Project Management Board, said: Thuan Nam Intersection is invested by Project Management Board 85. Previously, this unit handed over the site clearance markers and the locality completed the site clearance work. However, the construction of the intersection here has not yet been implemented.
According to the design, Thuan Nam intersection connecting with Provincial Road DT 709 has a total cost of more than 125 billion VND (including land clearance costs) including 4 connecting branches, with an overpass and expressway running underneath. This is an important traffic item, not only ensuring smooth connection between the expressway and local roads but also facilitating the transportation of goods to and from Ca Na port.
Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Director of Project Management Board 85, said: The unit is urgently preparing documents to organize the selection of construction contractors in the third quarter of 2025. According to the plan, the implementation time of the construction package for the traffic intersection item is 120 days and is expected to be completed in 2025.
The synchronous completion of the entire route and intersection will create momentum for the province's development, especially Ca Na general seaport and Ca Na Industrial Park will be exploited to their maximum potential, attract more investors, promote import and export activities, create jobs and improve the lives of local people.
