Pepper price today May 19 in the world market
In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of all types of pepper traded in the international market on May 17 (local time) as follows:
Indonesia's Lampung black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $7,301 per tonne. Meanwhile, Muntok white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $10,051 per tonne.
Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 price remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,800/mt.
Malaysia’s ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,200/ton. Meanwhile, the country’s ASTA white pepper price remained stable from yesterday at $11,900/ton.
Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of 500 gr/l black pepper in Vietnam reached 6,700 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 6,800 USD/ton.
Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,700/ton.
Summing up the market developments last week, domestic pepper prices fluctuated in opposite directions compared to the previous week. Specifically, Dak Lak and Dak Nong recorded an increase of 2,000 VND/kg. On the contrary, in the Southeast region, pepper prices in Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Dong Nai decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, Binh Phuoc decreased slightly by 500 VND/kg. Gia Lai only kept the price unchanged.
Last week, pepper prices in most major exporting countries in Malaysia, Brazil, and Vietnam remained stable, except for Indonesia, which recorded slight fluctuations. Indonesian black pepper prices decreased by 0.3% (equivalent to 22 USD/ton) compared to the previous week. Indonesian Muntok white pepper prices increased by 1.34% (133 USD/ton) last week.
According to a representative of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, after reaching a peak of over VND200,000/kg, domestic pepper prices have recently fluctuated mainly around VND150,000 - 160,000/kg. The main reason is that domestic supply and demand are relatively stable, with no sudden changes.
This person commented that the domestic pepper market still lacks the motivation to increase prices strongly, due to slow consumption. Meanwhile, in the international market, pepper prices are higher due to limited global supply after the harvest season.
Some experts predict that if supply continues to be lower than demand, pepper prices are likely to increase again in the coming time. However, many businesses are cautious about risks such as international trade tensions, fluctuations in major markets and the trend of increasing new planting areas, making the pepper price outlook difficult to predict.
In fact, pepper prices are showing signs of slowing down, while pepper diseases remain a constant concern for farmers. Therefore, although the rainy season is entering, a favorable time for new planting, investment in expanding pepper acreage in key regions such as the Southeast and Central Highlands is expected to take place at a rather cautious pace.
