Pepper prices have remained stable and high in recent times, the reason being limited supply, increased demand and prolonged drought in key growing areas such as the Central Highlands and the Southeast, raising concerns about the possibility of reduced productivity in the coming crop.
Experts say that this year pepper prices have remained high while the main harvest season is taking place in large numbers, which is rare in recent years.
Pepper traders said that unlike previous years, when pepper prices often plummeted during the harvest period due to oversupply, this year farmers are hoarding their products and only selling when needed. They are not under great financial pressure, so they are able to keep prices stable, helping to reduce market fluctuations.

The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) believes that in the coming time, pepper prices will face challenges including high domestic prices pushing costs close to the ceiling, while the US tax policy can suddenly reverse, making signing long-term contracts potentially risky.
According to VPSA data, Vietnam's pepper exports to the Chinese market in the first quarter increased by 87.8% over the same period last year, reaching 2,034 tons. However, compared to the same period in 2023, the import volume was still 92.2% lower.
China has risen to the fourth position as Vietnam's largest pepper export market with its market share increasing to 4.3% from 1.9% in the same period. This shows that pepper reserves in China have reached a low level.
