World gold prices fell by $17 to $3,366 an ounce after a sharp increase. In the US trading session (night of June 2), the precious metal rose to $3,394 an ounce (up more than $100 an ounce). Safe-haven demand for gold increased as trade tensions between the world's two largest economies , the US and China, increased. Risk-off sentiment started the trading week after US President Donald Trump accused China of violating a recent trade agreement. Mr. Trump also said that US tariffs on steel and aluminum would increase this week. Another important factor supporting the rising gold price is the weakening of the US dollar. The greenback fell against other currencies after Mr. Donald Trump announced plans to double import tariffs on steel and aluminum to 50%.

In addition, the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues to escalate, increasing pressure on risky assets and supporting gold prices. Mr. Tim Waterer, Chief Market Analyst at KCM Trade Company, commented that with increasing trade and geopolitical concerns, it is not surprising that gold started the new week with an upward trend./.
