World gold price today 05/24/2025 and world gold price fluctuation chart in the past 24 hours

According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 4:30 a.m. today, Vietnam time, was at 3,358.42 USD/ounce. Today's gold price increased by 1.72% compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate on the free market (26,230 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 106.2 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is about 14.3 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.

“President Trump has been shaking up the markets in the last 24 hours,” said Tai Wong, an independent metals trader. “His threat to impose 50% tariffs on EU goods from June 1, his pressure on Apple and his criticism of Harvard have sent equities into a negative mood, which is good for gold. The return of tariff concerns on a low-volume day ahead of a long holiday could amplify price volatility.”

Global stock markets plunged after Mr Trump proposed a 50% tariff on imports from the European Union starting June 1. He also announced that Apple would be subject to a 25% tariff on iPhones sold in the US but not manufactured domestically.

The dollar index (.DXY) fell 0.7%, making greenback-denominated gold cheaper for investors holding other currencies.

Earlier on Thursday, the Republican-controlled US House of Representatives passed a massive tax and spending bill that is expected to add trillions of dollars to the country's national debt.

Gold’s appeal as a safe haven asset is heightened amid geopolitical and economic uncertainty. “If gold breaks above $3,500, we could see a strong rally to $3,800,” said Daniel Pavilonis, senior market strategist at RJO Futures.

Platinum rose 1.2% to $1,094.25 in the session, its highest since May 2023.

“Platinum inventories in the market are very low right now and that is causing a physical shortage,” said Giovanni Staunovo, an analyst at UBS.

Spot gold and silver rose 0.8% to $33.33 an ounce, while palladium fell 1.5% to $999.29. Both precious metals posted weekly gains.
