SJC gold bar price increases to "ceiling", many people still buy and store

At 11:30 a.m. on April 1, SJC Company listed the buying price of SJC gold bars at 99.9 million VND/tael and the selling price at 102.6 million VND/tael - an increase of about 1.5 million VND compared to yesterday.

The selling price of gold rings and jewelry of all kinds also reached 102 million VND/tael, while the buying price reached 99.7 million VND/tael.

Domestic gold prices are at an all-time high while world gold prices have not stopped their shocking rise, continuing to climb to 3,144 USD/ounce at noon today (Vietnam time).

Despite the record high price of gold, many people still do not hesitate to buy gold for storage. The demand for buying small quantities of gold such as 1, 2 or 5 taels is quite high; some people also ask to buy 5-10 taels of SJC gold. However, the number of customers coming to SJC Company is not as crowded as in previous days, and they do not have to wait in line for too long.

According to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , at the headquarters of SJC Company (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) in the late morning, right before lunch break, two women carrying large handbags came in to buy 57 taels of SJC gold bars. They said they had registered the transaction schedule by phone.

"According to the listed price as of noon today, it is 102.6 million VND/tael, 57 taels of SJC gold bars are equivalent to more than 5.84 billion VND" - SJC Company staff announced.

According to SJC employees, the company does not limit the quantity of SJC gold bars purchased by customers in the 1-tael category. Customers can purchase 10-20 taels or more, depending on the gold source the company has. SJC gold bars of 1, 2 or 5 chi are usually available in the early afternoon.

A customer sold more than 14 taels of SJC gold bars on the morning of April 1, at the SJC company in Ho Chi Minh City.

There are also many people who sell gold when they see the price increase to a record high. Ms. Minh (living in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) and her husband sold more than 14 taels of SJC gold bars that they bought at the price of 67 million VND/tael, earning a profit of nearly half a billion VND.

"When the price was 80 million VND and then 90 million VND, I wanted to sell but my husband did not agree. Now that the gold price has exceeded 100 million VND, my husband and I decided to take profit" - Ms. Minh explained.

Meanwhile, some gold shops in Ho Chi Minh City reported few customers on the day gold prices hit a historic peak.

The owner of a gold shop in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City said that customers came to trade normally, not too crowded. Regarding the reflection that some gold shops lowered the buying price lower than the listed price, the owner of this gold shop affirmed that buying and selling were at the listed price and the difference was not high, about 1-2 million VND/tael.
