World oil prices drop sharply
In the early morning of July 28, Brent oil price dropped to 68.39 USD/barrel and WTI oil price dropped to 65.07 USD/barrel. This is the lowest level in the past three weeks. The main reason comes from the concern about the negative economic signals from the US and China, as well as the instability surrounding trade negotiations.
However, news that the US and EU reached a framework trade agreement somewhat supported market sentiment, helping oil prices turn around and increase slightly in the morning of the same day.
Domestic gasoline prices continue to fall
In the adjustment period on July 24, the Ministry of Industry and Trade - Ministry of Finance reduced the price of RON 95-III gasoline to 19,709 VND/liter (down 216 VND) and E5 RON 92 gasoline to 19,279 VND/liter (down 202 VND).
Meanwhile, diesel and kerosene prices increased slightly, to VND19,129/liter and VND18,628/liter, respectively. Fuel oil in particular decreased to VND15,379/kg.
Fuel type | Adjustment level | New retail price |
E5 RON92 gasoline | Reduced by 202 VND/liter | 19,279 VND/liter |
Gasoline RON95-III | Reduced by 216 VND/liter | 19,709 VND/liter |
Diesel 0.05S | Increase 330 VND/liter | 19,129 VND/liter |
Oil | Increase 199 VND/liter | 18,628 VND/liter |
Mazut oil 180CST 3.5S | Discount 99 VND/kg | 15,379 VND/kg |
Oil prices are expected to recover.
Experts say oil prices may rise slightly next week thanks to news of a trade deal between the US and the EU and a sharper-than-expected drop in US crude inventories. However, factors such as supply cuts from Russia and global economic pressures will still cause the oil market to fluctuate strongly.
