Gasoline prices increase, some types increase by more than 600 VND/liter

On the afternoon of May 15, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade jointly announced changes in retail gasoline prices. The effective time is from 3:00 p.m. the same day.

The regulatory agency decided to increase the price of E5 RON 92 gasoline by 410 VND/liter and RON 95 gasoline by 420 VND/liter. After adjustment, the maximum retail price of E5 RON 92 gasoline is 19,180 VND/liter and RON 95 gasoline is 19,590 VND/liter.

Similarly, oil prices were also adjusted up again during this management period. Specifically, diesel increased by 420 VND/liter to 17,220 VND/liter, kerosene increased by 280 VND/liter to 17,220 VND/liter; fuel oil also increased by 630 VND/kg to 16,160 VND/kg. The Joint Ministry still maintains not to draw from or spend the price stabilization fund.

Thus, the domestic price of RON 95 gasoline has increased again after 2 consecutive decreases. Currently, the price of this fuel is still at the lowest level in the past 4 years, equivalent to May 2021. Since the beginning of the year, RON 95 gasoline has increased 10 times, decreased 10 times. Diesel has increased 9 times, decreased 10 times and remained unchanged once.

The room for the petroleum price stabilization fund of some key enterprises still recorded a large positive level because this fund has not been used in many recent management periods. The fund balance as of the end of 2024 is more than 6,072 billion VND. Compared to the end of 2023, this fund balance decreased by nearly 600 billion VND.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , since implementing the reduction of gasoline prices to every 7 days, the price fluctuation between two basic adjustments has not been large, and domestic gasoline prices have basically followed the world price movements.

In addition, according to reports from key petroleum traders, the total imported and domestically purchased sources in the first 4 months of the year were about 9.1 million m3/ton, reaching 30.7% of the total minimum allocated sources. Consumption of petroleum in the past 4 months was about 8.5-8.8 million m3/ton of all types of petroleum, an increase of nearly 6% over the same period last year; estimated inventory at the end of April was about 1.7-1.8 million m3/ton of all types of petroleum.

In the coming time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to implement solutions to ensure domestic gasoline supply. At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade requires the Departments of Industry and Trade to monitor local traders to maintain regular and continuous sales activities, selling at listed prices.
