Today, November 19, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi held a ceremony to celebrate its 80th anniversary, 30th anniversary of establishment and received the First Class Labor Medal. On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam sent a flower basket and a congratulatory letter to the school.
On October 10, 1945, just over a month after reading the Declaration of Independence giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, President Ho Chi Minh signed Decree No. 45 establishing the Faculty of Letters under the Vietnam National University, the predecessor of today's University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

The 80-year journey, whether under the name of University of Letters, Hanoi University of Science or University of Social Sciences and Humanities... has left behind great achievements, becoming valuable legacies and important resources for the school's breakthrough development.
Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Minh Son - Director of Hanoi National University said that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has always been identified as one of the strongest centers in training, research and policy consulting in the field of social sciences and humanities.
In the new development strategy, Hanoi National University has a strategy and vision to become an elite university following the model of a research and innovative university, reaching world-class standards.
To achieve this goal, people are identified as the center, both the goal and the most important driving force. Therefore, the task of gathering and nurturing talents, training the elite of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is one of the key tasks.
The Director of Hanoi National University suggested that ministries and branches pay more attention to investing in the field of social sciences and humanities, considering this a core pillar in the development of modern Vietnamese people.
Mr. Son proposed allowing Hanoi National University and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to pilot special mechanisms and outstanding autonomy, creating conditions for developing a large team of scholars, attracting talent, promoting strategic research and implementing comprehensive autonomy - one of the three core driving forces of the strategy.
This aims to help Hanoi National University achieve its goal of being among the top 100 universities in Asia by 2030 and having key fields in the world's Top 100.
Social sciences and humanities are the foundation of development.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said that during the arduous years of the resistance war, in addition to imparting valuable knowledge amidst bombs and bullets, many lecturers of the school were brave and determined to use their blood to write applications to volunteer for the battlefield. Many students also temporarily put down their pens and took up arms to go to the front line at the call of the country.

During the period of national development, many generations of students of the school have grown up and succeeded in many fields, making important contributions to the cause of building and defending the country. The late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was also a former student of the school's Literature Department.

Recently, the Politburo issued Resolution 71 on breakthroughs in education and training development, thereby continuing to affirm the view that education and training is the top national policy, identifying high-quality human resources and scientific and technological talents as the driving force and competitive advantage of the country.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said that social sciences and humanities are identified as the foundation for sustainable development, meeting the requirements of national development and defense in the new era. "Without strong basic science, there can be no breakthrough applied science, and even less can there be an independent and sustainable development strategy," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
With its position as a leading center of social sciences and humanities in the country, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long advised the school to continue to take the lead in basic science research and training, contributing to preserving and developing fundamental cultural values, while opening up new approaches in training, research and policy consulting.
