What did VPF leaders say about VAR?
Attending the opening ceremony of the 4th VAR referee course this morning (May 26) at VFF were Mr. Dang Thanh Ha - Head of the VFF Referee Board, Mr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc - General Director of Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF), Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy - VPF VAR Project Director, and lecturers in charge of the course. Ms. Minh Thuy is the only "pink shadow" of the entire VAR training course for Vietnamese referees in the past few years.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc shared: “VAR technology has been present in Vietnam for the third season. This season, some matches in the first division also applied VAR. Through that, we can see the active supporting role of VAR technology in refereeing. With the role of managing, organizing and operating national professional football tournaments, as well as directly contacting and working with FIFA on the VAR project, we have worked closely with relevant parties to continue implementing the 4th VAR referee training course, constantly striving to ensure the VAR referee force meets the requirements, achieving the goals for the tournament.
For the VAR referee course 4, in this decisive third training step, there will be a learning intensity of 6 consecutive days, training close to the reality of matches with VAR. We recommend that students maintain high concentration, grasp the problem quickly and continuously improve themselves to complete the course well, pass the FIFA assessment test and in the near future we will see students again at matches of national professional football tournaments".

After completing 2 intensive training sessions, with theoretical and practical content in the LAB (Laboratory), 19 professional and non-professional referees and assistant referees will enter the final training phase - the 3rd training step - practicing on the field with simulated situations of increasing difficulty, from short situations of 10 minutes, 30 minutes to a full 90-minute match.
This training step is taught directly by VFF Referee Board instructors. FIFA instructors monitor remotely through daily video recordings, then evaluate each referee's learning process, score them, and make the final decision on whether or not to be certified to officiate at matches with VAR.

The 19 referees participating in this training include 5 V-League assistants, 6 first division referees and 8 non-professional referees. In the 4 VAR referee training courses, this is the 2nd course that VPF Company and the VFF Referee Board have combined to train both professional and non-professional referees and assistant referees. This is a long-term plan with the goal of preparing successor personnel in the following years, so that the application and operation of VAR in national professional football tournaments can be maintained continuously.
After 3 successful training courses, 36 Vietnamese referees and assistant referees have been granted VAR referee certificates. Some non-professional referees with solid expertise have also been assigned to work as VAR assistant referees (AVARs) in some matches of the 2024-2025 professional football season.
