Parishioners join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses

The movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has been strongly implemented from the central to the grassroots levels. Along with the efforts to compete in labor production to bring a prosperous and happy life, the parishioners of Chau Thanh town (Chau Thanh district) have actively supported material and spiritual resources and joined hands with the locality to help poor households and households in difficult circumstances improve their housing and have the opportunity to develop.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Dinh discussed work with Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Chau Thanh town.

Chau Thanh town currently has 5 religious establishments, of which over 90% of the people follow Catholicism in 4 parishes: Phu Ninh, Vinh Son, Cao Xa and Thanh Tuan. Along with creating conditions for religions to operate in accordance with the law, the Chau Thanh town government always pays attention to implementing coordination work, mobilizing parishioners in the area to actively respond to patriotic emulation movements in building new rural areas and civilized urban areas, including the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Dinh - Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of Cao Xa Parish said that in order to help the poor eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, the unit has coordinated with local authorities to promote propaganda and mobilize parishioners to support materially, spiritually, and with working days to help the poor stabilize their lives.

Ms. Tran Thi Anh Loan (49 years old), residing in Group 14, Quarter 2, Chau Thanh Town, shared: “For the past 10 years, my family has had to live in an acquaintance’s house. I work for hire, my income is unstable, not enough to cover living expenses, so I cannot afford to build a house to live in. Luckily, the State supports housing, I feel very happy, my family is trying to do business to escape poverty.”

Ms. Do Thi Hong Duyen (64 years old), residing in Ward 1, Chau Thanh town, confided: “My family is poor, I lost my ability to work due to illness. Fortunately, the State supported me, and parishioners contributed labor days to help carry bricks, build the foundation, and join hands to build my house. I am very happy and joyful. My family will strictly follow the Party's policies and the State's laws and policies, and build our homeland to become more and more prosperous and beautiful.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bay (50 years old), residing in Ward 2, Chau Thanh town, makes a living by selling lottery tickets. Thanks to the attention of the local government and the support of parishioners, she has joined hands to build a new house with an area of ​​over 50m2 , worth about 90 million VND. Ms. Bay would like to thank the Party, the State and everyone, and feels happy to live in a new, spacious house.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ly - Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Chau Thanh town said that thanks to the response of parishioners in movements and activities, the average income per capita in the area has been improved; medical work and health care for people have been focused on; the rate of parishioners participating in health insurance has reached over 86%; the fields of culture andeducation have received investment attention, national defense and security have been maintained.

From 2022 to present, the Parish Pastoral Council and the parishes have supported the installation of a street lighting system, with a total value of over 40 million VND. Parishioners of Ward 2 and Ward 3 of Cao Xa Parish have cleared ditches and installed drainage pipes on 2 intra-field roads, at a cost of 35 million VND. Parishioners also voluntarily donated 1,000m2 of land, soil, rock, and rubble worth nearly 1 billion VND to open 2 roads. In Ward 1 of the town, there is a model of "Environmental protection and climate change response" that has been effective with the active participation of parishioners.

Promoting the effectiveness of the movement "All people protect national security", over the past 10 years, the model "Safe parish in terms of security and order" of Ward 1 and Ward 2 has brought practical results in crime prevention, people actively participate in the local self-management movement, building cultural neighborhoods and towns.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chien - Chairman of the Pastoral Council of Cao Xa Parish shared: "Twice a month on major holidays, the neighborhood coordinates with the church to organize propaganda for parishioners to comply with the Party's guidelines, the State's laws and policies, the meaning and importance in building new rural areas and civilized urban areas so that everyone can understand and implement them."

Mrs. Do Thi Hong Duyen is happy with her new house.

With the motto "Good life, good religion", Catholics in Chau Thanh town have brought about outstanding results in the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, not only helping poor households to rise up and gradually stabilize their lives, but also being a symbol of the spirit of "mutual love", contributing to Chau Thanh town in completing the target of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses.
