On June 25, at Quan Su Pagoda ( Hanoi ), the Vietnam Association for Organ and Tissue Donation and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) signed a cooperation agreement to promote organ and tissue donation registration "Giving is forever" and launch organ and tissue donation registration at religious establishments nationwide.
Speaking at the ceremony, Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Standing Member of the Council of Monks and Permanent Vice President of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, affirmed that organ donation to save lives is an act that demonstrates the spirit of compassion and charity of Buddhism, and is also a noble gesture of the nation.
The VBS calls on all monks, nuns, Buddhists, and people to join hands and contribute to this meaningful and noble movement of registering to donate tissues, organs, and human parts. Donating tissues and organs is a practical action to demonstrate our love for humanity, sharing, and altruism...
Registering to donate organs and tissues is an opportunity for each person to practice the doctrine of non-self while still alive. When registering to donate organs and tissues, we have let go of our attachment to the body, demonstrating our determination to the Buddhist doctrine of non-self and impermanence. Organ and tissue donors will receive boundless blessings and immeasurable merit.
“The VBS will always accompany agencies in this noble cause. We will actively promote and widely disseminate information to Buddhist organizations across the country; pagodas and monasteries; to raise awareness among Buddhists and the public about the significance of organ and tissue donation,” the representative of the VBS pledged.
At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan highly appreciated the spirit of the Vietnam Organ and Tissue Donation Association and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in organizing this meaningful signing ceremony and emphasized that the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha will be a bridge of love to spread the message of humanity, encouraging Buddhists and people to participate in organ and tissue donation. This is a wonderful combination of the cultural traditions, ethics and compassionate spirit of Buddhism with modern medical science, bringing practical benefits to the community.
Immediately after the signing ceremony, the VBS initiated the registration for organ and tissue donation directly and online at religious establishments nationwide. Just a few minutes later, at the ceremony, more than 300 Buddhists registered to donate organs and tissues.
