Safe water transport: "Plus points" for the tourist season

 

“As scheduled”, Quang Binh is ready to welcome tourists to Phong Nha-Ke Bang in the 2025 tourist season, including the activities of the Phong Nha tourist boat team. In April 2025, the Traffic Police Department (CSGT), Provincial Police coordinated with Phong Nha-Ke Bang Tourism Center to strengthen propaganda on waterway traffic safety (ATGT) and sign commitments with vehicle owners operating in the area.

 

The propaganda content focuses on disseminating the Law on Inland Waterway Traffic to vehicle owners and crew members, including: Conditions for operation and vehicle registration; regulations on ensuring safety when carrying passengers; violations and administrative penalties; causes and consequences of waterway traffic accidents. At the same time, mobilizing people to participate in protecting waterway traffic infrastructure works.

Authorities ensure safety for the boat racing festival on Nhat Le River, Dong Hoi City on the occasion of April 30 and May 1.

Along with the participation of the Traffic Police, Phong Nha-Ke Bang Tourism Center has also strengthened the management responsibility for vehicle owners. Ms. Le Thi Hue , Na residential group, Phong Nha town, currently driving a tourist boat on the Son River, shared that to be qualified to transport tourists, the vehicle operator must have all types of professional certificates according to regulations. In particular, the boat owner must ensure that all passengers wear life jackets and strictly comply with safety requirements.

 

“If there is a situation where tourists do not wear life jackets, the boat owner will be punished by reducing the number of trips. For the safety of tourists and to not affect work, we always actively propagate and even have to patiently persuade passengers to comply with the regulations,” Ms. Hue added.

 

Such strict measures and regulations have contributed to raising public awareness, ensuring safety for visitors and gradually building a professional and friendly image of Phong Nha-Ke Bang tourism. Along with passenger transport activities on the Son River, the success of the traditional boat racing festival of Bo Trach district and the carp competition on the Son River during the recent holiday has affirmed the effectiveness of the coordination and methodical organization, as well as the sense of responsibility of the functional forces, authorities and local people in ensuring traffic safety and order, joining hands to preserve and promote the unique cultural and tourism values ​​of the heritage area.

 

In Dong Hoi City, many outstanding activities took place during the May 30 and May 1 holidays. In particular, the traditional boat racing festival on Nhat Le River attracted a large number of tourists and locals to watch and cheer. To ensure the safety and convenience of the events, the Traffic Police Department, Provincial Police Department has developed a plan and implemented it carefully before, during and after the festival. Working groups conduct patrols, control traffic, and ensure traffic order and safety at key intersections and routes around the festival area. The Waterway Police Team coordinates with the forces controlling boats operating on Nhat Le River to ensure safety on the racetrack and be ready to handle related situations.

 

“During the festival, we assigned working groups, arranged vehicles to patrol, protect the racetrack, and direct traffic on neighboring roads. Despite the large number of tourists and residents, traffic safety and order were ensured, contributing to leaving a good impression in the hearts of tourists about a vibrant, safe and civilized cultural festival,” said Lieutenant Colonel Tran Cac, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department, Provincial Police.

 

Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: “This is the first time I have experienced the boat racing festival in Dong Hoi City. Not only was I impressed with the unique atmosphere of the festival, I also felt very secure because of the thoughtful organization and the functional forces always on duty to ensure the safety of the people and tourists.”

 

Ensuring waterway traffic safety is one of the key tasks that the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee regularly directs sectors, localities and units to focus on. For Quang Binh, waterway traffic plays an especially important role when many tourism activities take place on rivers, requiring absolute safety to build trust and positive experiences for tourists.

Promoting the positive results achieved, in the coming time, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee will continue to strengthen the direction of functional departments, branches and local authorities to focus on reviewing, adjusting and perfecting the coordination mechanism in the management of inland waterway traffic activities. This is an important basis to ensure synchronization and effectiveness in implementing tasks.

 

In addition, the propaganda and dissemination of laws on waterway traffic safety will continue to be promoted with many diverse forms, easy to access and suitable for each target group, such as: People, vehicle owners, boat drivers, transport businesses, tourists... Thereby, contributing to raising awareness, forming the habit of obeying the law and civilized behavior when participating in waterway traffic. Maintaining traffic safety work and strictly handling violations is an effective deterrent solution, gradually establishing a safe and disciplined tourism environment.

 

The overarching goal is to strive to prevent waterway traffic accidents, especially during the peak summer tourist season of 2025, contributing to ensuring absolute safety for residents and tourists, improving service quality and building the image of Quang Binh as a friendly, attractive and professional tourist destination in the eyes of international friends and domestic tourists. This is also the foundation to create "plus points" for the 2025 tourist season in particular and Quang Binh tourism in general.
