MSc. Phan Van Hiep, Faculty of Engineering - Technology, Van Hien University (HCMC) introduced the application of solar energy integrated with moisture separation technology in agricultural processing in Binh Thuan province. Accordingly, the innovative designs of the equipment such as solar heat traps placed above the dryer, or placed on the factory roof, integrating moisture separation technology for agricultural and seafood; controlling drying temperature; sterilizing microorganisms and molds with UVC technology; controlling and monitoring on LCD or smartphone. The application of drying agricultural products using solar energy integrated with moisture separation technology is currently designed to be convenient, does not require a large area, the product after drying maintains its nutritional content, and the temperature can be controlled as desired. Multi-function dryers using solar energy save energy, reduce emissions; increase product uniformity and dry quickly; maintain original shape, original color, original taste; ensure food hygiene and safety, preserve longer, and save labor. “Current solar dryers with integrated moisture separation technology can be used to dry agricultural and seafood products of Binh Thuan such as freeze-drying dragon fruit, processed products from dragon fruit, cashew nuts, squid, fish, etc.”, shared MSc. Phan Van Hiep. Currently, some establishments in the province are promoting the application such as Hoa Le Clean Dragon Fruit Cooperative, Ma Lam town, Ham Thuan Bac; Sen Nui General Service Cooperative, Duc Linh district, etc.

Traceability application towards sustainable dragon fruit consumption.

Two farm management software KiPUS, Agrivi from Germany, UK, specialized for dragon fruit, operated by a traceability system that allows locating any stage in the value chain, are shared by the Vietnam Farm & Agricultural Enterprise Support Center as a solution to support traceability of agricultural products. Vegetable and fruit products such as dragon fruit will be attached with a QR code throughout the life cycle from production to packaging, consumption and distribution in the market. Farms and garden owners can read this QR code to connect to the Server and update information about the dragon fruit farm, cultivation process, fertilizers used, assign responsibilities, optimize costs, and meet market requirements. All product information is stored on the server, easy to access. The newly packaged shipment has been posted online and has not yet left the production site, but the seller has viewed the shipment information. In Binh Thuan, the Vietnam Farm & Agricultural Enterprise Support Center has applied KiPUS farm management software to trace the origin of dragon fruit for production facilities and cooperatives such as Ham Minh 30, Thuan Tien, and Hoa Le.

Many businesses and cooperatives in the province apply technology to process products from dragon fruit.

Along with that, some other advanced solutions such as: technology for processing fermented water and wine from dragon fruit; multi-material essential oil distillation equipment suitable for households; application of enzyme technology to process noni fruit, enhance value, and protect health are shared by the Provincial Center for Innovation & Application of Science and Technology, units inside and outside the province. Mr. Nguyen Van Trung, Deputy Director of the Center for Innovation and Application of Science and Technology in Binh Thuan said: “The introduction of technology and equipment for processing and preserving agricultural and seafood products after harvest to serve the production and trading of the province's key and advantageous products, contributes to diversifying products to serve domestic and export needs. According to statistics, the total area of dragon fruit in the province is nearly 26,500 hectares, with a harvest output of more than 570,000 tons/year. Thereby, establishments, enterprises, cooperatives, and households in the province can invest in appropriate technology to serve production, processing, improve the quality of agricultural products, serve the domestic market, export, increase community income, and aim at sustainable development of many agricultural products of the province.
