My Khe Beach is located more than 10km east of Da Nang city center, on the banks of Kinh River. Son Tra Peninsula is located about 10km northeast of Da Nang city center. Son Tra has an area of 60 thousand square kilometers, with a length of 13km and a width of 5km. The northwest embraces the mainland and borders Da Nang city. The remaining three sides of the peninsula border the sea. The problem of plastic waste and marine pollution

With the advantage of beautiful beaches with deep bays and rich resources, however, currently, due to the sudden increase in the number of tourists visiting Da Nang's beaches, the amount of waste has increased significantly, especially plastic waste. In addition, Da Nang's marine environment also has to bear a large amount of domestic waste when it rains heavily, because the drainage system cannot drain in time or is clogged due to the amount of waste, especially too much plastic waste, which has overflowed into the sea, leading to a situation of flooding in the docks, beaches... and mainly plastic waste.

According to statistics from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Da Nang, the average amount of waste collected at Da Nang beach is about 4,000 tons/year, accounting for about 1.5% of the city's total waste. In addition, Da Nang is one of the localities that is often affected by storms. Every year, after storms or heavy rains, water from upstream flows down rivers, carrying a large amount of waste to the city's coast, leading to widespread waste, especially plastic waste.

Plastic waste causes a lot of harm to the ecological and natural environment, they pollute the environment, affect human health and affect other marine species when these creatures accidentally eat plastic waste. Currently, plastic waste is a big challenge, seriously affecting the marine environment.

To combat this situation, each of us needs to be aware of protecting the marine environment, such as throwing garbage in the right place, absolutely not littering on beaches and public places, actively cooperating with authorities in collecting garbage and cleaning the marine environment... only then will the marine environment be cleaner and more beautiful.

Practical actions to protect the marine environment

To contribute to protecting the marine environment and motivating many people, especially young people, in Da Nang, the Youth Union and relevant agencies have organized many practical and meaningful activities. Typically, during Youth Month, at Da Nang beaches, the Duy Tan University Volunteer Student Club (Da Nang) organized a Green - Clean - Beautiful Sunday and promoted awareness among people and tourists in saying no to plastic waste, awareness of environmental protection and marine ecosystems on Da Nang beaches to prepare for the 2023 beach tourism season in response to Da Nang Liberation Day on March 29 and World Water Day 2023.

This is a meaningful activity to educate and train the awareness of youth union members as well as widely propagate to all people and tourists about the meaning and importance of preserving and raising awareness of protecting the marine environment to many people.
In addition to the above activities, Da Nang has been implementing many other meaningful and practical activities in protecting the marine environment.

On weekends, coastal localities have coordinated with military units stationed in the area, students and volunteer teams to collect trash along the beach, raise awareness of marine environmental protection, and propagate the harmful effects of plastic waste. In particular, during the recent flood, many practical activities took place with the goal of quickly returning a clean environment to the sea.

Those regular and unexpected activities have contributed to preserving the fresh green color of the gift that nature has bestowed on Da Nang so that Da Nang beach deserves to be a bright pearl in the middle of the Central region of the Fatherland!
