With the current growth rate and the expansion of Vietnamese brands such as Cactus, Vietnamese coffee has the opportunity to surpass Mexico to enter the top 10 largest coffee exporting countries to the Canadian market.
Vietnamese coffee has long been famous in the international market thanks to its quality and unique flavor. As one of the world's leading coffee producing countries, Vietnam is known mainly for its Robusta and Arabica coffee varieties, with many famous coffee growing regions such as the Central Highlands. Canada is one of the largest and growing coffee consuming markets. In recent years, Vietnamese coffee has begun to appear on the shelves of stores and cafes nationwide, scoring points with Canadian consumers thanks to its rich flavor and reasonable economic value. Vietnamese coffee brands have made efforts to build a strong image in Canada, through marketing activities, participation in exhibitions and trade fairs. Vietnamese coffee products are highly appreciated for their quality, thanks to strict processing procedures and compliance with international standards. Many roasters and distributors in Canada have chosen Vietnamese coffee as a sustainable and attractive option. Over the past year, the amount of coffee exported to Canada has increased significantly. This shows the interest of Canadian consumers in Vietnamese coffee, especially in the context of increasing demand for pure and natural coffee products. Despite certain successes, Vietnamese coffee in Canada still faces competition from many other coffee-producing countries such as Brazil, Colombia and Ethiopia. This requires Vietnamese producers and brands to constantly improve the quality of products and services. The increasing trend of specialty coffee consumption in the Canadian market opens up great opportunities for Vietnamese coffee. Canadian consumers are increasingly looking for unique products with clear origins, creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese coffee to dominate the market. In 2023, Vietnam exported coffee worth over 32 million USD to Canada, reaching the highest level in the 2013-2023 statistical period and growing 220% compared to before the two countries joined the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Seizing this opportunity, Cactus - a young Vietnamese business investing in Canada, decided to choose the bustling city of Toronto as the destination to open a Vietnamese coffee showroom, while also seeking to expand the export market for Vietnamese coffee products in the coming time. Cactus started its business in 2021, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, with many difficulties. Currently, the Vietnamese coffee showroom with their name has grown very strongly and has a stable number of customers, especially Vietnamese customers - those who want to find the taste of their homeland in a faraway place, half a world away.

Overseas Vietnamese students, international students or Vietnamese workers living in Canada almost all have the need to enjoy coffee with the habit of drinking milk tea and coffee since they were in Vietnam. When they came to Canada, they went online to search for Vietnamese groups in Toronto and learned about Cactus store. Currently, many of them have become "regular" customers of this brand after a few times coming to try it. It can be seen that Vietnamese coffee has a special position in Canada. In addition to impressing local friends, Vietnamese coffee also has enthusiastic support from compatriots working and studying here. With the current growth rate and the expansion of Vietnamese brands like Cactus, Vietnamese coffee has the opportunity to surpass Mexico to enter the top 10 largest coffee exporting countries to the Canadian market. Trade Counselor of the Vietnamese Embassy in Canada Tran Thu Quynh commented that the Trade Office hopes to cooperate with Cactus to turn this facility into a destination to introduce and promote Vietnamese brands. According to Ms. Tran Thu Quynh, in addition to developing coffee brands originating from Vietnam, Cactus can promote franchising to build its chain of facilities across Canada. This is one of the forms that can promote export value through the service sector and will bring great value to Vietnam's exports in the coming time. Vietnamese coffee is gradually affirming its name in the Canadian market thanks to its outstanding quality and efforts in building a brand. With the opportunities and challenges ahead, continuing to develop an export strategy and improve product quality will help Vietnamese coffee reach further in the North American market, bringing benefits to both farmers and the national economy./.
