Recently, at the Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Festival organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology , many AI products were introduced, such as: ultrasound image processing, fetal prediction images, specialized chatbots to support businesses, and computer vision products…
The Ministry of Science and Technology recognizes that AI is contributing to increased labor productivity and improved quality of life. This technology has been deployed in many important fields such as defense, security, agriculture , construction, and finance. In particular, several domestic technology corporations have invested in research and development of AI based on specific data and knowledge, aiming to meet the needs of Vietnamese people.
Despite initial successes, AI development in Vietnam still faces many challenges. One of the major obstacles is the shortage of highly qualified human resources.
Associate Professor Dr. Dinh Ngoc Minh from RMIT University believes that collaboration between educational institutions and businesses is necessary to develop in-depth training programs in AI. Currently, the number of AI experts and engineers is small, and there is a lack of close collaboration in large national projects.
Furthermore, the current information and telecommunications infrastructure is not synchronized, affecting the ability to deploy large-scale AI solutions. Many technology companies want to use modern computer systems to train next-generation AI models. However, they are currently renting equipment from abroad at high costs and with the risk of confidential information being leaked. Therefore, government policies to promote AI development are essential to leverage existing infrastructure resources.
Although the number of businesses applying AI is increasing, the rate remains low and is mainly limited to a few small processes. This is due to limitations in awareness, finances, and infrastructure within businesses. For AI to deliver real value, it needs to be comprehensively integrated into business operations. AI deployment depends not only on technology and the readiness of businesses but also on the business environment and legal framework.

Recognizing the crucial role of AI in socio-economic development, the Party and Government have issued numerous mechanisms and policies to promote AI research and application. Decision No. 127/QD-TTg dated January 26, 2021, on the "National Strategy for Research, Development, and Application of Artificial Intelligence to 2030" is one of the important legal documents. This strategy sets specific goals to promote AI as a key technology sector in Vietnam in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Many argue that this Strategy needs to be concretized into mechanisms, policies, and regulations to ensure a complete legal framework for the development and application of AI, including product pricing, technology procurement bidding, and responsible AI development. AI is not only an advantage for developed countries but also an opportunity for developing countries, including Vietnam, to advance.
According to Le Hong Quang, Deputy General Director of Misa Joint Stock Company, in the coming time, Misa's products and solutions will integrate AI with the criteria of accessibility and cost savings, aiming to help businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, enhance their competitiveness and contribute to economic development.
As one of the leading enterprises in AI development and application in Vietnam, FPT Group has also invested in computing infrastructure and AI model training, especially in the context of generative technology applications that require high computing power.
Professor Vu Ha Van - Director of Science at VinBigdata (Vingroup), emphasized the need to master AI generative applications to leverage the unique data of Vietnamese people that foreign applications find difficult to access.
The Ministry of Science and Technology is committed to strengthening connectivity to build a robust AI ecosystem, contributing to socio-economic development and improving productivity and quality of life in Vietnam.
