Ha Ia puts on a "new coat"

BHG - In early June 2025, we had the opportunity to return to Ha Ia village, Can Chu Phin commune (Meo Vac), a peaceful Mong village nestled among majestic cat-ear rocky mountains. The natural scenery and familiar faces are still there, but Ha Ia has changed today, the village is now brighter, cleaner and filled with hope for prosperity.

Mr. Ho Pa Lua, Head of Ha Ia Village, enthusiastically led us around the village. The winding concrete road appeared before our eyes, connecting each alley. On both sides of the road, neatly arranged stone fences, interspersed with wild flowers and green trees, created a peaceful and attractive picture of the countryside. "Now all the roads in the village have been 100% hardened, including the roads leading to households or the paths to the fields," Mr. Lua proudly said.

Not only the roads but also the houses in the village have changed significantly. Many solid houses have sprung up, replacing temporary, dilapidated houses. Currently, the commune has 17 households building new houses. If completed, the rate of solid houses in the village will reach 97%, a happy number in a remote area like Ha Ia.

Visiting a few households, we were impressed by the neat and clean houses, the livestock barns were moved far away from the residential area, ensuring environmental hygiene. Every household had a TV, motorbike, milling machine, and many families even installed wifi to connect to the internet, update information, learn about policies, and learn about new economic models.

According to Head of Ho Pa Lua village, the whole village currently has 131 households with about 700 people, nearly 100% of the population are Mong ethnic people. Previously, people's lives mainly depended on corn fields, small-scale livestock farming, and unstable income. However, since promoting the renovation of mixed gardens, changing the structure of crops and livestock, and actively increasing production, people's lives have changed significantly. As of mid-2025, the whole village has planted 160 hectares of corn, nearly 100 hectares of vegetables and beans of all kinds; the total herd of livestock reached nearly 800 heads. The rate of poor households has decreased gradually over the years; the number of well-off and average households has increased by nearly 50%. The average income per capita is currently from 20 to 23 million VND/year.

Another highlight of Ha Ia village is the implementation of Resolution No. 27 of the Provincial Party Committee on eliminating bad customs and building a civilized lifestyle. In particular, the organization of funerals has many positive changes; 100% of funerals now do not last more than 48 hours and limit the slaughter of livestock. At the same time, traditional cultural values such as language, writing, house architecture, costumes, festivals, etc. are preserved and promoted, contributing to enriching the national identity here.

Sharing about the positive changes of the village, Head of Ho Pa Lua village shared: “If we want our village to be better, the villagers must be united, the village cadres must be close to the people, understand the people, and do things first to gain the people's trust. Thanks to the attention of superiors and the joint efforts of the people, the village has the appearance it has today. Now everyone is actively building the New Rural Area, competing in labor production and gradually eliminating bad customs. Things that seem difficult, the villagers can do, because everyone wants a better life.”

Leaving Ha Ia when the afternoon light gently falls on the mountainside, looking back at the concrete road we just passed, we can see that this is not simply a road for traveling but also a road of innovation for a village that is shining day by day, persistently rising up in the middle of the forest. In recognition of these efforts, recently Ha Ia village was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for its outstanding achievements in the patriotic emulation movement in 2024. This is a worthy reward for a community that knows how to overcome itself, writing a story of change from its own trust and solidarity.
