The topic of agriculture , countryside, the simple, rustic life of farmers always attracts me.
Not only is it the pillar of the economy , agriculture is also a valuable and rich "resource" of the press. Thai Binh Newspaper (including Thai Binh Newspaper and Thai Binh Radio - Television before the merger) always reserves a suitable position and time to promote the fields of agriculture, farmers and rural areas. Every week and every month, the units build special pages and columns, assign specialized reporters to monitor and promote these fields. Thanks to that, major policies and resolutions on agricultural development, farmers, rural areas and new rural areas (NTM) are conveyed by journalists in a vivid, timely and most accessible way to farmers. Reporters who follow agriculture are also the connecting link between farmers and Party committees, authorities at all levels, and specialized sectors, speaking up from the grassroots and from the fields.
As a reporter who has worked in the agricultural sector for many years and has written many works on the topic of agriculture and rural areas that have won national journalism awards, journalist Vu Nguyen Binh, Head of Editorial Secretary, Thai Binh Newspaper, shared: Even the usual news and articles reflecting on individuals and groups with good and creative ways of doing things also have a great impact on the progress of building new rural areas and replicating typical agricultural production models.
Not only promoting the positive aspects, Thai Binh Newspaper also reflects on localities that have not done well and still rely on the state budget. Through this, the province and district can grasp information and correct localities that are slow in implementing the progress of building new rural areas.
Although it is a provincial Party newspaper, Thai Binh Newspaper's multi-dimensional articles on agriculture and new rural construction have impacted many provinces and cities across the country. Many comrades who are leaders of departments and branches in many provinces have called the Editorial Board of Thai Binh Newspaper to thank the valuable information that the newspaper has provided, helping localities learn from the experience of new rural construction in Thai Binh province to apply in their localities. For newspapers writing about agriculture, documents from reality become a "treasure" of topics for reporters to exploit and reflect.
In recent years, Thai Binh agriculture has changed dramatically. From small, fragmented, vulnerable farmers, affected by the market, they have now become "big farmers" owning large fields of hundreds of hectares. Following the "pulse" of production, the topics and press products written about agriculture, farmers, and rural areas are therefore always vibrant, diverse, multi-dimensional and full of life.
I always think that “the profession chooses the person” because topics about agriculture, the countryside, the simple and rustic life of farmers always attract me. Each article not only records events, reflects current issues to serve the public, but also contains the writer’s thoughts and feelings, is the most authentic and kind story about farmers “working from dawn to dusk, with muddy hands and feet” to spread their values and contributions to the country’s development.
In particular, the 5-part series "Dai dien truc rong lon" of Thai Binh Newspaper (old) has excellently won the B prize - National Press Award in 2023. When making the series, the group of reporters delved into 2 "first and only" issues in Thai Binh, which are the Dai Dien Club and the mechanism and policies of Thai Binh province on land accumulation and concentration. Reflecting the uniqueness in Thai Binh but also the reality of land accumulation and concentration in many localities across the country when the legal framework, specifically the Land Law, has not been amended to keep pace with the transformation of agriculture. The series of articles depicting the portraits of new farmers is also on behalf of the "Dai Dien" of Thai Binh, farmers across the country expressing their thoughts and aspirations in the change of the 2013 Land Law, untying the land limit.
How many of us were not born in the village? How many of us grew up and matured without working in the fields? Many people ask if being an agricultural reporter is hard? The answer is of course “yes”, but alongside those hardships are always feelings of sincerity and simplicity from the farmers.
To get beautiful, authentic images, reporters are willing to wade through mud, brave the sun, stand in the rain, go down to the fields with farmers, and go to each barn to learn about the reality. During stormy times, agricultural reporters are required to make efforts, not afraid of difficulties, hardships, and sometimes even dangers due to working in heavy rain and strong winds to stay close to the industry, field, and area to promptly grasp information, and then from the perspective and thinking of journalists, "cherish" and "package" them into valuable information lines; quickly, accurately, and authentically convey images and videos about the damage situation, the work to overcome the consequences, and the wishes of farmers to send to all levels and sectors...
Doing anything requires time, “soaking” and sincere attachment to strengthen the relationship between the journalist and the base. Each article thus becomes a story, a vivid piece of the village and the fields of my homeland. Therefore, if I had the choice, I would still want to continue to be a reporter writing about agriculture, because it is not only a career, but also an opportunity to accumulate knowledge, experience and convey my thoughts: writing about agriculture, farmers, and the countryside with all the sincerity, kindness, and ethics of a journalist.
