In the morning, candidates will take exams in specialized subjects such as Literature, Math (for candidates applying for specialized math and IT classes), and Other Foreign Languages (foreign languages used for exams in specialized language classes such as French, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, including French, German, Japanese, and Korean). Exam time is 150 minutes per subject.
In the afternoon, candidates will take the exams in Natural Sciences (for candidates applying to specialized Physics, Chemistry, and Biology classes), History and Geography (for candidates applying to specialized History and Geography classes), and English. The exam time is 150 minutes per subject.
Compared to last year, this year's specialized exam has some changes.
Regarding the exam subjects, the names of the entrance exams for specialized classes are Natural Sciences (exams for specialized Physics, specialized Chemistry, specialized Biology), History and Geography (exams for specialized History and specialized Geography).
Regarding exam time, all specialized subject exams have a time limit of 150 minutes. In previous years, the exam time for Foreign Language and Chemistry was 120 minutes.
Regarding the test method, candidates taking the Natural Sciences and Foreign Languages exams will do the test directly on the test paper instead of on the test paper like previous years. Therefore, candidates will only be given the test paper and scratch paper when taking the test.
There are also many important adjustments regarding items brought into the exam room. Candidates taking the Geography exam are not allowed to bring the Geography Atlas, and candidates taking the Chemistry exam are not allowed to bring the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements and Solubility Table into the exam room.
The formula for calculating the admission score (Score) for grade 10 of Hanoi's specialized high schools in 2025 is as follows:
DXT = Total score of non-specialized exams (coefficient 1) + Score of specialized exams (coefficient 2)
In the 2025-2026 school year, specialized high schools in Hanoi have adjusted their enrollment quotas. Specifically, the total enrollment quota for 4 specialized schools (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Chu Van An High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted, Son Tay High School for the Gifted) is 2,730 students (equivalent to 78 classes). Compared to the previous school year, the total enrollment quota for grade 10 of specialized schools increased by nearly 500 students, equivalent to 14 specialized classes.
Of which, Son Tay High School for the Gifted has increased its quota the most (210 students, equivalent to 6 specialized classes). Chu Van An High School for the Gifted has increased 4 specialized classes (about 140 students); Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted each have increased 2 specialized classes (about 70 students/school).
Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that this year, according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , the announcement of 10th grade exam results and admission benchmark scores must be at the same time.
According to the plan of the Department of Education and Training, from June 9 to 22, the Examination Council of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will mark multiple-choice tests. From June 11 to 22, the Council will mark essay tests.
From July 4-6, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will announce the test scores of candidates on the Department's electronic information portal and the city's primary admission portal. Also during this period, the Department will announce the benchmark scores of schools.
From July 7-9, schools will return application documents and admission exam results for grade 10 for the 2025-2026 school year to students.
Before July 10, schools will receive students' appeal applications, submit appeal applications and lists of students to the Department of Education and Training.
From July 10-12, high schools, vocational education - continuing education centers, and vocational education institutions will organize admission confirmation.
On July 17, the Department of Education and Training and specialized high schools and public high schools will meet to approve additional benchmark scores for public grade 10 (if any).
From July 19-22, schools will organize admission confirmation and receive additional admission applications (if any).
In the 2025-2026 school year, Hanoi will have four specialized schools, including Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Chu Van An High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted, and Son Tay High School for the Gifted. Candidates can apply to two of the four schools. Previously, on June 7 and 8, candidates took the exam in 3 subjects: Literature, Foreign Language and Mathematics in the entrance exam for non-specialized public high schools. These are 3 compulsory exams for all candidates registering for admission to specialized 10th grade in the 2025-2026 school year. |
