Hanoi: Urgently fix the sinkhole in lane 297 Tran Cung street

On October 9, regarding the sinkhole incident on Tran Cung Street, the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board (Hanoi Department of Construction) inspected the scene. Accordingly, the sinkhole is located in lane 297 Tran Cung (Nghia Do ward, Hanoi).

The Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board has directed the Hanoi Traffic Construction Joint Stock Company 2 to coordinate with the People's Committee of Nghia Do Ward to organize traffic flow guidance; at the same time, notify the investor to promptly fix the problem to ensure traffic safety. Currently, the sinkhole area has been fenced off and warning signs have been placed at the incident location.

Before that, at around 1:00 p.m., at the road section in lane 297 Tran Cung street, a sinkhole about 3 meters wide appeared, causing the wheel of a truck to fall down. Fortunately, there were no casualties. Notably, immediately after that, when the tow truck arrived to pull the truck, another sinkhole about 2 meters wide appeared, causing the front wheel of the tow truck to also fall down.

Authorities are urgently verifying and clarifying the cause of the incident.

On the same day, the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board (Hanoi Department of Construction) said that due to the impact of storm No. 11, the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board has so far detected and handled 22 incidents related to road traffic infrastructure. In the coming time, the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board will continue to direct road management and maintenance contractors to continue to inspect and promptly handle incidents to ensure traffic safety for people and vehicles.

In addition, the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board informed that as of 3:00 p.m. on October 9, there were a total of 22 flooded locations in Hanoi; of which, 13 flooded locations were still accessible and 9 locations were deeply flooded and not accessible. Regarding flooding incidents, the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board has directed road management contractors to properly implement the plans issued by the Department of Construction.

Specifically, flooded locations over 10 - 20cm (Option 2) 6 locations; flooded locations over 20 - 30cm (Option 3) 7 locations; flooded locations greater than 30cm (Option 4) 8 locations. Accordingly, for flooded locations over 10cm to 20cm (Option 2), along with the implementation measures in Option 1, the units will place flood warning signs, clearly stating the maximum depth on the road surface at the 2 ends of the flooded location (2 sets of signs).

For flooded areas over 20cm to 30cm (option 3), along with the measures in options 1 and 2, the road management contractor will arrange a person to guide and regulate traffic (1 person). For flooded areas over 30cm (option 4), along with the measures in options 1, 2, 3, the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board will promptly report to the Department of Construction to block the road and issue a notice to organize traffic diversion (if necessary); place barriers, flood warning signs, clearly stating the maximum depth on the road surface, prohibition signs, directional signs at the 2 ends of the flooded area (2 barriers, 6 sets of signs and necessary equipment to guide and regulate traffic).

Currently, the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board has directed road management contractors to continuously monitor, assign people to be on duty to guide traffic flow and install warning signs at flooded locations; at the same time, announce information to mass media and VOV traffic channel to guide drivers to move smoothly and ensure traffic safety.
