(NLDO) - The early opening of the two bridges will help reduce traffic congestion and create a more spacious appearance for Ho Chi Minh City during the Lunar New Year.
On the morning of December 27, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong had a working session with the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Management Board (Traffic Board, investor) to check the progress of the two projects Ba Hom Bridge and Tan Ky Tan Quy Bridge.
It is expected that both projects will be opened to traffic before the Lunar New Year 2025 to serve people's travel needs.

According to Mr. Trinh Linh Phuong, Deputy Head of the Traffic Department, Ba Hom Bridge has a total length of about 425m, including 93m of the main bridge and 332m of approach road. The approach road at the beginning of the bridge has a cross-section of 21.5m, of which the roadway is 18m wide, the rest is items such as median strip, safety strip and railing. The residential road under the bridge has a cross-section of 18m, of which the roadway is 11.5m wide, the sidewalk is 6m wide and the safety strip is 1m wide.
The project has a total investment of more than 374 billion VND. In the 2024 capital plan, 9,561 billion/37 billion VND has been disbursed, reaching more than 25.8%. Currently, the project has reached 75% of the volume, with all houses cleared, medium and low voltage power grids and telecommunications relocated. It is expected that Ba Hom Bridge will be open to traffic before January 20, 2025.
Tan Ky Tan Quy Bridge is over 224m long, including 82m of main bridge and 157m of approach road. The width of the bridge and the approach road is 16m, the middle span of the bridge has a 1.5m wide sidewalk on each side. The approach road at the beginning of the bridge has a scale of 6 lanes with a width of 30m. The residential road on both sides of the bridge is over 367m long, 7m wide, with a scale of 1 lane.
The project has a total investment of VND 491,668 billion from the city budget. In the 2024 capital plan, more than VND 136,742 billion has been disbursed, reaching 62.2%. Currently, the project has reached 85% of the volume.
According to Mr. Phuong, the biggest difficulty currently facing the two projects is the supply of construction materials, especially crushed stone and crushed stone. The Traffic Department has asked construction units to gather materials and request permission to transport materials during the day to speed up progress. At the same time, "3 shifts" construction has also been implemented to ensure the completion of the main items before January 15, 2025.
Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong directed construction units to urgently complete the main items, opening the road to traffic no later than January 20, 2025. He also agreed to allow vehicles carrying materials to enter the construction site during the day, and assigned the Department of Transport to guide the implementation procedures.
In addition, he requested the investor and contractor to ensure that when the new bridge is opened to traffic, the land is returned to the people to create urban beauty during Tet. Additional items such as the access road and pedestrian bridge must be completed immediately after Tet.
Also in the morning, Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong inspected the Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Rach Nuoc Len canal renovation project. This is a project with a total implementation period from 2021 to 2026, currently reaching 41.36% of the volume. However, the project is facing many difficulties, including 24 cases of uncleared land, of which Binh Tan district is facing 22 cases.
In addition, the project also faces problems related to traffic connections to Tan Binh Industrial Park, environmental procedures, dredged sludge dumping sites and overlaps in volume division among contractors.
The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee affirmed that the two projects of Ba Hom and Tan Ky Tan Quy bridges no longer face significant difficulties and obstacles. The progress depends on the management of the investor and the construction capacity of the contractors. The early opening of the two bridges will help reduce traffic congestion and create a spacious appearance for Ho Chi Minh City during the Lunar New Year.
