Hai Long and Van Vi were called up to play against Manchester United.

Nguyen Hai Long and Nguyen Van Vi were called up by coach Kim Sang Sik to the ASEAN All-Stars squad for a friendly match against Manchester United.

Midfielder Nguyen Hai Long ( Hanoi Club) and defender Nguyen Van Vi (Nam Dinh Club) have been called up by coach Kim Sang Sik to the ASEAN All-Stars team to play a friendly match with Manchester United (England) on May 28 in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

In the initial list, three Vietnamese players chosen by coach Kim Sang Sik were Do Duy Manh, Nguyen Hoang Duc and Nguyen Quang Hai.

However, coach Alexandre Polking of Hanoi Police Club did not want Quang Hai to participate in this match in order to focus on competing in the semi-finals of the 2024-2025 National Cup and the final of the Southeast Asian Club Championship - Shopee Cup 2025.

Therefore, coach Kim Sang Sik was forced to add more players to the ASEAN All-Stars team in the friendly match against Manchester United. The Korean coach chose Hai Long and Van Vi.

Hai Long, who plays in the same position as Quang Hai, is also in excellent form. He was the player who scored from midfield against Thailand, sealing a 3-2 victory for the Vietnamese team in the second leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup final at Rajamangala Stadium, thereby winning the championship trophy.

Meanwhile, Van Vi is a new addition to the ASEAN All-Stars team in the context of many players from other countries withdrawing from the call-up list. Players from Thailand (Nicholas Mickelson), Indonesia (Ferarri) and Malaysia (Dominic Tan and Aguero) are all unable to participate.

Most recently, coach Kim Sang Sik also had to adjust the squad when Cambodian naturalized striker Andres Nieto was not eligible to play (he received a yellow card in a friendly match during the FIFA Days in March). As a result, another naturalized Cambodian striker, Coulibaly Abdel, was called up to replace Nieto.

Van Vi is called completely deserved. He has played very well for the Vietnam national team since coach Kim Sang Sik took charge. Most recently, Van Vi scored 1 goal in a friendly match with Cambodia and a double against Laos in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.
