Nui Thanh spreads blood donation movement to save lives

(QNO) – In recent years, the voluntary blood donation movement in Nui Thanh district has continuously spread, becoming a humanitarian gesture, attracting a large number of people to participate, contributing to bringing life to many patients in need of blood for treatment.

In Tam Giang commune, Ms. Dao Thi Hai is a typical example in the humanitarian blood donation movement. Not only has she donated blood 34 times herself, she has also encouraged her husband and children to participate. To date, Ms. Hai's family has donated blood a total of 49 times.

“I always keep in mind that ‘a drop of blood given, a life saved’. Every time I donate blood, my health is still guaranteed and my spirit is happier. I hope that more and more people will join hands to spread this meaningful action,” Ms. Hai shared.

Mr. Nguyen Van Quang (in Tam Giang) is a volunteer who is always ready to donate blood when a patient needs urgent transfusion. Over the past years, he has donated blood more than 10 times and donated platelets twice, helping to save many people from critical situations.

“I am so happy that my blood can help someone save their life. I will continue to encourage my relatives and friends to join this humane movement,” said Mr. Quang.

According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Huu - Chairman of the Red Cross Society of Nui Thanh district, the whole district currently maintains the effective operation of 17 family blood donation clubs, 2 live blood bank clubs and Nui Thanh 25 blood donation club.

In 2024 alone, the entire district received 1,692 units of blood, far exceeding the target assigned by the province (1,200 units). Of which, centralized blood donation reached 1,300 units, the rest were donated at hospitals. Notably, the rate of repeat blood donation reached more than 70% and more than 320 units of platelets were donated. Notably, 12 people voluntarily registered to donate tissues and organs.

The first voluntary blood donation campaign of 2025 was held last February, with the entire district collecting 480 units of blood. Since the beginning of the year, voluntary blood donation clubs in the district have always ensured the supply of blood according to the needs of patients at hospitals, with a total of 230 units of blood donated.

“Through the voluntary blood donation movement, the district has gathered a team of enthusiastic volunteers, who are both direct blood donors and active propagandists. This is the core force that helps the movement spread widely in the community,” said Mr. Huu.
