At the 29th week of pregnancy, Ms. M. was found to have a baby with fetal anemia, slow development in the uterus, 2 placentas in 1 amniotic sac, and the umbilical cord attached to the edge - a particularly dangerous condition, with a very high risk of miscarriage.
The remaining fetus was monitored for TAPS type I syndrome – twin-to-twin anemia polycythemia syndrome – a sign of imbalance between the two fetuses.
After an emergency consultation, the team at the Fetal Intervention Center, Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital decided to transfuse 40ml of red blood cells directly into the anemic fetus through the umbilical vein. The procedure took place under continuous ultrasound guidance and close monitoring by the team.
After the blood transfusion, the fetal heart rate stabilized, edema significantly reduced, and both babies continued to develop healthily in the mother's womb.
During the 5 weeks of fetal development in the uterus, doctors at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital devoted themselves to helping the mother reach the goal of safe childbirth.
At the 34th week of pregnancy, after many days of close monitoring, Ms. M was scheduled to have a cesarean section. The two little angels cried out one after another at birth, the older one weighed 2,000g, the younger one weighed 1,300g, safe and healthy.
