TPO - Hundreds of trees, including many 30-year-old acacia trees in a mountainous district of Ha Tinh, were forced to be cut down to make way for a 709 billion VND project, leaving many people regretful.
According to Tien Phong reporters, the trees that were cut down were located in the area around Binh Son Lake. Hundreds of trees were cut down and fell on the sidewalk. |
The relocation, cutting down, and moving of trees is part of the project “Improving Huong Khe urban infrastructure”. Specifically, this project was approved by the People’s Committee of Ha Tinh province in 2020, with the District People’s Committee as the investor with a total investment of over 709 billion VND. |
This is a loan from the French Development Agency (AFD), non-refundable aid from the European Union and counterpart funds. Of which, counterpart funds are over 129 billion VND. |
To implement the project, Huong Khe district was forced to relocate and cut down hundreds of trees around Binh Son Lake (Huong Khe town). In the photo, the ancient trees around Binh Son Lake were planted decades ago. |
This action also received many mixed opinions and many people expressed regret when hearing that the ancient rosewood trees, which are decades old, were about to be cut down. |
Residents of Huong Khe town said that this row of trees is considered by them as the "green lungs" that create a unique beauty for this mountainous district, the "fire pan" of the Central region. "If they are cut down like this, who knows when they will be able to replant them," said Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan (resident of Huong Khe district). |
“In the midst of the extreme heat, cutting down a series of trees makes us sad and regretful. Because these trees are over several decades old and have been with many generations,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong (residing in Huong Khe town). |
According to the leader of Huong Khe Town People's Committee, this row of trees was planted from 1994 to present. To implement this project, the locality held a meeting and proposed a plan to cut down 323 trees, relocate 107 trees and keep 83 trees. The trees that had to be cut down were royal poinciana, soapberry, sycamore, acacia, etc. |
“However, the most valuable are still the rows of old rosewood trees. When we proposed cutting them down, we also made plans and discussed to minimize the cutting of trees,” said the leader of Huong Khe town. |
