The family of Valeanu, who was killed by Hamas at the Supernova music festival, invited 10 strangers to her funeral as a formality, but tens of thousands attended.
Bruna Valeanu, a 24-year-old student from Brazil who recently moved to Israel, was murdered by Hamas militants while attending the Supernova music festival in the south of the country last weekend.
Valeanu's family plans to hold her funeral on October 10, and Jewish funerals require at least 10 people to attend, called a "minyan." A minyan is a group of people representing the community, relatives and friends, who gather to remember the deceased and comfort the bereaved.
The Valeanus, who had just moved to Israel and didn’t know many people, posted an invitation on social media for 10 strangers to attend the funeral. However, tens of thousands showed up.
A local resident said a long line of cars headed to the cemetery on the day of the funeral. "My friend and I came here after Valeanu's family said they didn't have a minyan. When we got to the cemetery, there was a traffic jam and we thought it was because there were so many funerals going on. We didn't know that everyone was here for Valeanu," Orit said.

Valeanu's sister, Nathalia Valeanu, said her sister was separated from her friends when Hamas stormed the Supernova music festival.
"The last thing we got was her location via text message. It was a dangerous place where armed groups were coming in trucks, tanks and motorbikes. She heard a lot of gunshots and saw many wounded people," said Nathalia Valeanu.
Several people attending the Supernova music festival were taken hostage by Hamas, including Israeli student Noa Argamani. Images showing gunmen holding Argamani have emerged on social media.
The family of Laor Abramov, the DJ who went missing at the Supernova festival, said they had contacted the authorities but had not heard from him since October 7. Abramov's mother, Michal Halev, was hopeful that he would be returned.
At least 260 people were killed at the Supernova music festival. Israel is launching airstrikes in the Gaza Strip in response to Hamas. As of October 13, fighting between the two sides has left more than 2,800 people dead and nearly 10,000 injured.
Israel on October 13 ordered civilians to evacuate from northern Gaza to the south within 24 hours, a sign that it may soon launch a ground operation into the Gaza Strip.
