According to Dr. Ha Anh Duc, in recent days, there have been consecutive cases of assaults on medical staff while treating patients. Regardless of the cause, assaulting medical staff, especially when they are on duty to save lives, is completely unacceptable. Regardless of who is right or wrong, when doctors are performing their professional duties, their safety must be ensured so that they can complete their work.
Immediately after the incidents, the Ministry of Health issued a document directing rectification throughout the sector, requiring the Departments of Health to work immediately with the police to ensure security and protect medical staff while performing their duties of rescuing people. Although the assault on medical staff in Thanh Ba (Phu Tho) did not reach the level of criminal prosecution, the provincial police department intervened and handled it according to regulations.
The assault on medical staff has been going on for many years, with both objective and subjective causes. The medical examination and treatment sector is inherently stressful, with medical facilities across the country receiving and treating millions of patients every day.
Meanwhile, the staff has not met the demand, many hospitals are very crowded. Meanwhile, patients want to be examined quickly and thoroughly, but many times medical facilities cannot meet the demand... The large number of patients creates pressure for doctors and in some situations, medical staff may not respond well.
Dr. Ha Anh Duc said that the medical sector has many regulations related to professional ethics and conduct in the medical environment, from the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment to decrees, circulars, internal regulations...
The goal is to “take the patient as the center”, the patient is respected, examined and treated. However, to achieve that, with the current pressures, we also hope to be understood and shared to ensure the examination and treatment activities take place effectively.
In addition to closely coordinating with the police in ensuring security and order at hospitals, the Ministry of Health will continue to report and advise the Government , or within the scope of its authority, the health sector will continue to develop solutions to ensure the safety of medical staff while on duty.
The goal is to minimize unnecessary pressure on both medical staff and patients. To do so, a system of synchronous solutions is needed. First of all, the reception process at medical facilities needs to be more professional to reduce initial stress. Next is training in situation handling skills for medical staff; support from authorities must be truly timely when incidents occur.
