To celebrate International Children's Day June 1 and the summer of 2025, many art units have created and launched attractive stage plays, with the desire to bring children relaxing moments and useful life lessons.
First time bringing folk tales into Vietnamese circus
The Vietnam Circus Federation welcomes Children's Day and Summer 2025 with the comedy circus-entertainment art program "Have to laugh even if you don't want to," based on the folk tale "Nghêu-Sồ-Ốc-Hến."
The program was adapted and directed by People's Artist Tong Toan Thang.
The story takes place during a village festival. Oc, due to his poverty, came to see Ngheu, a fortune teller, to ask if there was any way to help alleviate his poverty.
Fortuneteller Ngheu advised Oc to go to Boss So's house to steal. Oc invited Ngheu to go with him, both of them went to Boss So's house, when discovered, Oc quickly escaped, bringing the stolen goods to Hen's house to sell.
As for Ngheu, who was left behind by Oc, because he couldn't see, he was caught by Boss So. After many beatings, Ngheu had to confess and lead Boss So to Hen's house to catch Oc.
At Hen's house, Boss So met the village chief, teacher De, district magistrate... but no one helped Boss So clarify the matter, so Boss So thought of a "prank" plan by calling his wives to punish the corrupt and lustful officials.
Seeing the difficult situation of the Clams, Mussels, and Snails; the Clam Boss voluntarily took money from his pocket to help everyone...
The play is not only an entertaining story, bringing laughter to children, but also contains valuable lessons about human values in life; condemns bad habits in society, creating mocking and refreshing laughter for the audience.
In each scene, circus acts such as pole swing, rice juggling, fruit tray dancing, magic, tightrope walking, acrobatic chase, magic trick with changing people, silk rope swinging, juggling, silk rope for men and women, chair clowning, goat and pig circus... are arranged in a harmonious interlacing manner, both as highlights and contributing to making the play stand out.
People's Artist Tong Toan Thang, Director of the Vietnam Circus Federation, said this was the first time he had included a folk tale in a circus script.
This combination aims to promote and inherit the quintessence of traditional art into circus performances, with the desire to bring the audience surprise, novelty and a more comprehensive perspective when enjoying circus.
“The combination of circus art and comedy through dialogue and humorous circus performances will create an artistic product that is highly attractive and entertaining,” People's Artist Tong Toan Thang emphasized.
